I have VL Office converted to retail and activated with retail key. Today after updates after launching any Office application setup started and gives an error. Office also deactivated. I reinstalled copied certificates and restored activation and the same happened again. Can someone plese check what was changed.
Nice job! Earlier existed similar tool named 'Office Installer Channel Switcher', but it worked (only) for office 2010.
Just for my education, not being critical. Why would you want to convert Office 2016 to retail? I am using the VL with the Toolkit, and all works just fine. Grateful thanks to all those on this board, who make this possible.
@lostpassword If someone wants to access all the advanced features of a VL (MSI based) installation media, but own a retail key.
Thanks for the quick reply, but I am still a bit lost. I probably do not know about or use any of the advanced VL features, but does the Toolkit Activation do less than a Retail Version Key.
@lostpassword I'm not talking about activation, but MSI based installers do provide much better options for large scale deployments and such. https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com...3/determining-your-office-version-msi-vs-c2r/
Thanks very much, interesting article on the Technet site. I had no idea that there were 2 ways of installing software. At the risk of being tiresome, does the end result mean any difference in functionality. e.g can you do more on a VL version of Excel or a Retail Version. If the functionality is identical I still do not see the need to change. Of course if Retail provides a lot more other functions I can see the point. I only ever use the basic programs like Excel, Word, Publisher, Access and Outlook. Never even used Powerpoint! Think you do a great job on this forum, and it especially valuable to the less knowledgeable members.
@lostpassword Another reason for using VL installers, is the simple ability to choose the products you want at the installation, without the need for an outside program.
Hello, I have a retail key for Office 2016 and i've downloaded the VL version because I can choose what i can install. And this script was the thing i were searching. However i ran into a strange problem, the script doesn't let me switch/install the retail licences. When i press "Y" i hear a "beep" coming from my computer's internal speaker, and nothing happens. When i press "N", it goes back to the main menu. I tried to launch "cleanospp.exe" manually, but... it says "Failed to load SPP DLL". I uninstalled completely Office 2016, rebooted, used the Office 2016 CleanUp tool, re-rebooted, and reinstalled Office 2016 VL. No change. My version is Office 2016 ProPlus VL 64 bits, with Windows 7 (64 bits). Any idea to fix the problem ? Thanks in advance for your answer, Frédéric.
Hi avi smile, I'm not sure you still follow this thread, though here is a case that might interest you. I used the tool to convert Project Pro from VL to Retail on Windows 10 1709, followed the instruction and received successful message at the end of the process. Got Confirmation successfully over the phone and applied it and ended up with this: Would you help me understand this and could this stop the program from running later on? Thanks in advance for any help. This is the solution for anybody that may encounter same situation have two licenses for the same program. Using this tool uninstall all licenses. Install retail license files with the same tool. Using same key, same ID and same confirmation reactivate.
