Technically the classic and plus share the exact same core components so booth have the capability for the same functionality. But the classic UI SbieCtrl.exe is not being developed any further meaning it's lacking the UI for all the new features. You can use most of them by editing the Sandboxie.ini and if you need to add a supporter certificate you can do that in the classic as well by putting int in a file called Certificate.dat placing it in the installation directory and rebooting
It doesn't change the fact that Sandboxie requires a license in order to enable some of its functions. I'm willing to buy a lifetime license but there is only 1-year license which puts me off. @DavidXanatos do you plan to make a plan for lifetime license but price-tag suited to a regular home user (not business)? Also, any way to test the extra features of Sandboxie Plus without certificate via a trial (like 14 days)?
Partially true... Original SB from Ronen Tzur and then Sophos yes. Since splitting into to Branches (Classic and Plus), both versions are not free. Classic is nagware and from time to time it remembers the user with countdown dialog that you have to get a supporter certificate. With Plus you get "special" features.
It's unfortunate that Sandboxie has come full circle once again with its licensing stuff - albeit understandable, considering all the effort. But I do dread that it only needs a few more controversial changes to make people want to fork the project, or even create "cracks" for it. For example, when the program shows there is multiple sandbox types, but suddenly it says it's a supporter feature only, that leaves a sour taste in one's mouth. I expect it will be three years before something else happens that shakes up the community.
I mean I get it, but make the prices a lot more reasonable. Do a modified subscription of 5 USD a year or something where you can still use the software without expiring updates
