I think there is a lot of misunderstanding on this issue.

This is the case for me only:
I have an Asus computer with a motherboard capable of running UEFI which I am at present booting from.
    Windows 8.1 RTM is activated.
My Asus BIOS does not have Secureboot and no BIOS update is available.
I have tried the method posted by ODY123 in post 31 but it makes no difference.
Seems like Dyon post 40 may be correct
Windows thinks my motherboard should have Secureboot but it does not hence the watermark.

Please note everybody that in my case and I suspect most peoples cases on this subject it is not an option to enable or disable Secureboot because it does not exist in the BIOS

Yes, for my ASUS G75VW they removed those options with a bios update. o_O

I would love to know how to get rid of the watermark. I myself usually disable secureboot for various reasons (aero glass being one of them, which is upcoming for 8.1) but right now I have secureboot enabled just so I don't have to see it.

Actually it's quite simple, go into BIOS->advance->boot, enable secure boot, in the boot options choose win8 UEFI, then a configuration would appear, click on it to enter the key settings, you should have the keys in the DVD that comes with the mobo, or find it in the mobo's site, install them all (maybe you could set it to custom mode like @luke said, I don't know), then the watermark will be gone. :D

The only problem is that SecureBoot does not exist in my BIOS

Yes, I can go to BIOS->advance->boot
The only option then is to enter a master password which has nothing to do with SecureBoot and yes I have tried it.

SecureBoot is available on some motherboards but many do not have it and the ones without have the problem.
Myself and others are looking for some way to prevent the watermark and so far none of the offerings on MDL have worked

    K:confused:

I enabled secure boot on my ASUS Z87 board and the watermark is gone.

If you have it disabled, it will show the whole watermark.

I have secure boot option in bios/uefi. But ubuntu won't boot with it enabled, which is really a bummer.. Any way to prevent windows 8.1 from checking whether secure boot is enabled or not? I don't wan't Windows to prevent me from using Ubuntu/ Linux distro's! Ubuntu 13.04 is supposed to have working secure boot and everything, but it get's stopped during boot..

I have an alienware aurora r4
I'm booting from uefi, but still with legacy support.
With window 8.1 i get the watermark about the secure boot not set properly...

But i can't set secureboot in my bios. I says: my graphics card (nvidia gtx690) doesn't support uefi...

    Now what? Any thoughts?

Try disabling UAC maybe (actually disable it; EnableLua = 0 from registry)

    registry::HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system; key = EnableLUA

turning off uac remove the watermark for me.

Edit nevermind doing this metro apps wont work.

Ah, I guess this is why I don't have the watermark then. I couldn't care less about Modern UI apps and need UAC disabled so I can actually do things without being nagged :p
