It's not the "that" (thanks for that) but the "how". Telling people about a problem without fully knowing the context can backfire. Running latest Insider Server inside a VM is not a problem (well, at least not more than usual), running it under Windows 7 and it works mostly fine.

These type of things are to be expected, as everything's very hot and can change anytime. Insider builds are a moving target. Warning is OK and encouraged, but it should be a clear warning or it could confuse people.

 

They screwed a lot of people with that move, and the last version without hardening (4.2.16 IIRC) was still very popular long time after.

 

Obviously nothing is guaranteed when you run an unreleased OS, but in that specific case, it's VBox that specifically looks for troubles.

I may understand the hardening s**t they included, but in that case they should provide an updated definition quickly, just like an antivirus.

Otherwise it's the usual supposed security enhancement used against customers, not against threats.

I literally linked to the post on the Virtualbox forum about it, with as much information as was available, at the time it was available. I've been running early builds since before Server 2003 was released, and probably tried hundreds more for 20+ years... I'm well aware of what an early build is.
And I stated "a Virtualbox VM will not boot if run on Client or Server 25987 right now".
The words "a virtualbox VM will not boot if run ON" were used. It's nothing to do with running it under Virtualbox. I never said otherwise. I credited people reading the post with reading all of the words if they're used to using early builds.
And again as said elsewhere, unlike Client, people cannot just revert back to the previous build. It carries more weight with Server.

Does anyone have the link for Standard Server 2022... the link i've found is Datacentre 2022 and no desktop gui...
Anyone help?

A Windows Server 2025 digital license would come in very handy haha.

 

How or why do think HWID is related to that?
