What are the main differences between SIMPLIX and NTLite tool? Also, the OP lists multiple ways to achieve the same thing, so I'm not even sure which method is the least bothering to use.
Wow, just sensational this your job! Hope you launch this tool, it will be of great help! Thank you for your attention and apologies for any inconvenience!
Simplix works only on a new installation, is that right? So running it on a PC fully updated, will result in Simplix not integrating any update on the original W7 ISO? I ask because I really can't be bothered installing VMware/Virtualbox, go into BIOS and enable VT-d, install W7 on a VM, run Simplix to integrate files, take my updated ISO, uninstall the VM software, go into BIOS and disable VT-d... Why it can't just analyse what's integrated in your W7 ISO and integrate all the stuff that is missing by doing a compare operation?
Simplix UpdatePack: 1. Can be run on a live system(windows 7 obviously). Live system can be a either a clean MSDN image installation or any homebrew installation. Results vary, but running the pack on a clean msdn install is expected to work flawlessly. Running the pack on a live homebrew system - smaller number of updates will be installed(obviously, since there are ones already integrated) and there's a chance of running into problems, depending on the condition of the system(highly individual, unpredictable). 2. Can be used to update a windows 7 install.wim OFFLINE by executing through cmd and using appropriate switches. Host OS must be Windows 7 or newer. Absolutely no need to use a VM for this.
Ok, thank you. Just one thing: is there any difference in mounting on /Temp folder instead of Windows default temp folder? Does the Simplix Pack avoid all the Monthly Rollups and goes for the Security-only updates instead?
- There's no particular reason. You can always modify them as you wish, or just type in the command line yourself: updatepack.exe /wimfile=pathtofile /index=numberofindex /anycombinationofoptionalswitches - If your OS is on an SSD and the /temp= folder is on an HDD, then yes, there is a difference - a massive speed difference(at least in my experience).
So I chose Index 3 (W7 Professional) and I ended up with a bigger install.wim file. How do I use it? I thought it would create an ISO image.
Of course the install.wim file grows. It's only natural since you're adding stuff to it. Just update your install.wim file and then open the desired iso image and replace the install.wim file in it.
Ok, so I just put the updated install.wim in the same exact ISO I took the original file from. But I still got one doubt: what is the effect of updating only one index out of four available? If I had used "*" and updated all the four indexes, the file would be even larger now? Basically in the install.wim file I have created there is only one version of W7 that got updated, while the others stayed the same?
Hello sorry im a noob with simplix, i will test it for first time! I will make a new fresh and clean w7 installation. Tell me if i wrong but i will do this in this order. .1- Fresh w7 professional installation 2.- Move UpdatePack7R2.exe to C:\ 3.- Create junk temp folder 4.- run UpdatePack7R2.exe /Silent /Reboot /Temp=C:\junk *i dont use or want to install ie11 5.- Thats all Theats the way i proper install this or i making a mistake? thanks!
Why simplix uses Cumulative Updates over Security-only Updates? In CU Microsoft usually put all its Telemetry crap and extra unneeded stuff. I know this same question has been asked already a few pages back, but I couldn't find the explanation behind this choice simplix made. Also, where can I find the DirectX pack that I saw some people here have integrated? Is that any useful to add? The one dated June 2010 or something. I would like to have a full ist of the addons you can integrate. From what I could see, at the moment you can integrated DirectX, .NET Framework 4.72 and all the Visual C++ Redistributables (2005-2017). I didn't quite understand what are these files with .WA extension. I think abbodi1406 takes the original .msu installers and makes this kind of repack in order to create some addons compatible with the simplix tool?
