Why not simply apply it offline at forehand? The current simplix pack contains the last updates for win 7. And i don't expect any new updates for 7 to be released, or maybe simplix comes up with something containing updates from posready (or is it wes) usable for normal win 7, i don't know..
yes all difficult, I build times one, for very weak PC. comes anyway not to the network, thanks for your answer. Wish you a good evening
There's no news on anything before actual patch tuesday comes. No need to ask the same question every other day.
Is there some easy way to reduce installation size? If WU will likely end, or already is, would it make sense to purge WinSxS or whatever there's on Windows 7.
IIRC, Simplix needs SP1 and maybe .NET Framework, I definitely had to download SP1 for my ancient Win7 ISO when reinstalling recently. Otherwise it should be a complete set of updates, you won't need anything else from Windows Update.
Use clean sp1 refresh iso from 2011 + updatepack + abbodi's addons for dx/vc++/.net to create an up-to-date iso. That's it.
After I read your post, I decided to run my saved UpdatePack7R2+.exe file, just to see what would happen. Sure enough, UpdatePack7R2-23.2.4.exe started to download. But on 4 separate occasions several minutes apart, it failed to completely download. UpdatePack7R2-23.1.11.exe updates Windows 7 to January 2023. Unless there are further updates on the next "patch Tuesday" and beyond, I will stick with the install disc that I have already created.
This whole thing has made me curious. I ran the UpdatePack7R2-23.1.11.exe, and it immediately offered to download the newer version. I accepted, and the download was successful. As "poor dude" mentioned above, looking inside with 7Z did not show any differences. I even went so far as to extract the file contents with 7Z into two separate directories, and then compared the 2 directories using examdiff. No differences were found. I then ran Smartversion to create a diff file, with this result: smv BuildPatch newsvf.exe UpdatePack7R2-23.1.11.exe UpdatePack7R2-23.2.4.exe 2/04/2023 12:44 407,720 newsvf.exe 1/11/2023 12:10 852,123,560 UpdatePack7R2-23.1.11.exe 2/04/2023 12:04 852,123,424 UpdatePack7R2-23.2.4.exe
Question: Is there a work-around for getting Windows 7 to run on modern hardware WITHOUT requiring "CSM Enabled" in the bios settings? I have an Intel B460 (10th gen.) motherboard running Windows 7, which still requires switching to "CSM Enabled" in the bios settings, in order for Win 7 to boot. In a dual-boot system (on separate SSD's), would prefer leaving "CSM Disabled" for both Win 7 & Win 10/11. Thanks.
I usually download the whole new pack, but this time ran the updater. Both last months and the latest looked to be the same size which was odd but had different hashes, UpdatePack7R2-23.2.4.exe for me shows this: Name: UpdatePack7R2-23.2.4.exe Size: 852123424 bytes (812 MiB) SHA256: 43201f78c13884e131959248065f279c15df5ce0e9ee2d70521c1db499b93ca0
