Installed the July update the day it came out, since then my cpu is having random spikes that i never had before. They occur if i turn on the machine and leave it untouched for a few minutes, the moment i touch the mouse the spikes end. Not even gonna investigate what it is exactly because apparently this update is just a mess. Any “clean way” of reverting to june’s pack?
Is it normal that I'm missing update packages? I'm a newer user. Created Win7 x64 U1 ISO with the latest Simplex 7R2 integrated. Installed it on a new ESXi 7x VM. But I still had to manually install KB3033929, kb4474419, kb4490628 & kb3138612 before I could get the latest VMware tools to install or before I could get Windows updates to kick off without error. Expected behavior or user error?
Is it normal that, after installing the latest simplix update pack, the windows update and cryptographic services are deleted and windows update does not work? I tried the troubleshooter, the sfc /scannow command, and also microsoft fix it for windows updates and the latest v7.6 windows update agent. Nothing worked. I checked if there was a group policy change, but those for windows update are at defaults/not set. (the installation is done in a VMware virtual machine)
I installed the July pack and my Avast a/v immediately reacted by giving me an alert and quarantining Upd7live.exe and four other presumably related dll files. I submitted each one to an online file scanner/multi-tester (virustotal) and they all passed their scan tests. Should have thought to take a screenshot of all the files to pass on the specific details but neglected to do so. I ultimately decided to go back to a two day old disk image with the June pack installed anyway seeing that others here were having issues with the July pack. I've had no issues with the three previous packs I'd installed.
The bottom line for me is to ask if the Update Packs are now no longer reliable? I am only updated to the May 14th one.
Nah update packs are still reliable, just seems like microsoft pushed out a broken update & has yet to do anything about it. Supposedly a lot of other windows are affected by july's update. Though they seem to only plague/affect enterprise, & server (maybe embedded) the most. While windows 10 & windows 11 home & pro are fine. Though it affects windows 7 because you install server updates. There were even a few articles about the issues when july's update first came out. So we will see in august I guess if microsoft addresses the issues or chooses to ignore them I guess. Since I don't think they pushed out another update since.
I think I will hold fire before I use the Update Pack again until I hear a bit more feedback. I can't afford to bork my windows 7 install.
Makes sense & 100% agree with you, though you can still get junes update from the mega link junes update is completely fine from what I know & haven't had a issue with it. It wasn't until july's update that things started being all wonky.
Does simplix pack disables/delete the windows update service ? I'm asking this because the July pack deleted windows update completed. Does anyone know any commands to fix the windows update issue? (apart from sfc /scannow, which reports that there are no problems).
Thanks for the info. I tried the simplix update pack 3 times on VMware Win7 x64 virtual machines that were working OK. The Windows Update does not work anymore.
Have a look in your antivirus quarantine folder and check for notifications. May be possible your a/v falsely found it was malware like mine did (Avast). See my post above from July 24.
I missed/overlooked your previous post, till you told me, sorry. Guess what, I also have AVAST. I put the Upd7live.exe in exceptions before install. But the windows update in control panel does not work and the service does not exist. No other files were detected by avast, and during the simplix installation I chose to disable all protections (permanently). Anyway, AVAST is so stupid, that even when you disable all protections permanently, on restart it may forget/ignore your choice and do its stupid thing.
Doing my part until Enthousiast posts the full info with sums Code: $ sha1sum UpdatePack7R2-23.8.10.exe c547b6d6fce3ea8f51766e5f4dd1ac8492d048ab UpdatePack7R2-23.8.10.exe

Something definitely seems off when copying files over USB after the last couple of updates. Slow as hell
