Question: would I obtain the same result as Simplix (update the OS without hidden crap) if I manually downloaded all the listed KBs, plus all the "Security Only" patches since the start of the new format? (April 2017?) I'd prefer to get the original files from MS as much as possible..
No you will not have same result rollup contain non-security fixes (that may replace old security updates) and WU do not recognize security-only updates
At this point in time you have two choices: 1. Trust Simplix, let it update your system and then disable Windows Update. or 2. Use the original Windows 7 SP1 as-is and disable all updates
But I wasn't going to select "Monthly Rollup", only "Security Only". And I could download security-only manually from MS. I checked all the released patches from the security-guidance site (can't add links). I see, however, that one can't simply extract KBs from security-only.
I know, but i mean you will need to check/search/install those old security updates (which are not included in Simplix pack)
Well, the security-guidance site conveniently lists them all (from 2016\04). Security-only patches don't contain telemetry, right? Obviously, a single cleaned-up cumulative Monthly Rollup would be better, but I didn't find any guide online about fixing it. And about the old normal KBs, I already collected them all until 2015\12. I'll just need to get the missing ones (2016\01-2016\04?) from the Simplix list links.
Yeah do that and just hope simplix's programmer is not installing spyware on your computer. This had been the only suggestion to people who had concerns before.
Again, be the first to investigate and report back instead of insinuating unsupported claims or suspicions.
@puffyduff Would you please cut the tinfoil bs already? Either that or stop using electronics with an internet connection altogether, because you're literally blind to all the spyware you're using every day.

Online there are various lists about bad updates. These, however, still appear in Simplix: KB2670838 - The EVIL Update, breaks AERO on Win7, some webfonts fuzzy, bundled with IE10-11 KB2882822 - Update adds ITraceRelogger interface support to Win Embedded 7 SP1, Win 7 SP1, Server 2008 R2 SP1 KB3042058 - Microsoft claims its a security update but it contains Winlogon Spying KB3138612 - Win Update Client for Win 7 and Server 2008 R2: March 2016 [Contains KB2990214 Win 10 upgrade ] Are these wrong?
This idiotic FUD list is 2~3 years old, the one that wrote it was mentally unstable KB2670838 issue only affect very few machines, and it's been fixed with KB2834140 for years now KB2882822 is released with Windows 8 era, has nothing to do with telemetry paranoia KB3042058 spying is a childish lie (the one who claim it on Github admitted he was wrong) KB3138612, W10 upgrade is over, this is just a WUA update that resolve high cpu/ram usage and speed search
