I agree with you GameDev, no point in modding 8 to be like 7 when we have 7!
7 is super easy to activate too though I did manage a KMS at RTM and have an activated 8 on a test machine.

So do you think they will go back to being normal for 9?

    Best Wishes

I personaly don't think microsoft will go back to any kind of the startmenu we know from the past. This would be a huge discernment (hope this is the right word) that w8 had failed.

W8 has some nice advantages... but I still don't know if I'm willing to get those for price of compromises I/We had to take.

That's okay, it's not important at all hahaha.

Was just making sure that was the problem because I was worried i installed something else that broke the animation.

    Strange bug!

It's not really a bug. I know what this causes, so this is expectable, but I haven't noticed this ever before as nobody other really did.
Now I know what Aero Animations means. ;)

I thought W2012 Server has that feature out-of-box via group policy. :throw:

Nope Install will fail on Sever 2012 and is absolutly not necessary. You only need one registry entry... i thought someone allready mentioned the link. Server 2012 is by policy not forced to Modern UI, only over registry.

I know this entry for a few weeks. I thought he found the same way and published it earlier, but this was not the case. But he is/was on the right way and so i contacted him, but unfortunatly he never answered. Anyway. - The Systempolicy is not forced as it is in W8. Therefore it's not generally forced at it is in W8. MS forces Server over registry. But this can be easily changed.
In W8 I cut out the policy. This seems to be a kind of undefnied state and thus explorer normaly wants to load desktop my hotfix works. If the default behavior would differ the fix won't work.

if you will use that registry entry "ExperienceEnabled=0", than you will also loose "PC Settings" item in the charm bar and few other icons there...
...so this solution isn't perfect, mmmm

cant you reach the pc settings item over metro - user icon?! or is this app/tab completly disabled?
I havent tested/used server yet, only for some research for my fix but nothing more.

    Hello KNARZ

    Bypass Modern UI:
    - is a program running in the background ? What is the name process ?
    - is this a script ?
    - iis this slows down the computer?

    Greetings !

You mean get use to Linux, you are looking at the beginning of the end. They have determined that kids with phones and tablets are the demographic of choose. Businesses will move away for Microsoft in time.

Lol, all this secrecy is quite pointless, so - basically, it rebuilds tokens.dat skipping import of explorer-ppdlic.xrm-ms. The "bad" value in this license seems to be 1 for "explorer-ClientLoginExperienceAllowed". If so, this parameter is read by twinui.dll (and explorer.exe), thus alternative (though more dirty) method might be a simple patch of said files.

Yet another idea for enthusiasts to try:
replace explorer-ppdlic.xrm-ms with the one from leaked build 7989 and import it in tokens.dat: "slmgr.vbs -ilc path\explorer-ppdlic.xrm-ms". Should make Metro skip at boot, but not enable those weird aeroAnimations.

I'm not aware of the data for the value for clientexperience in this build but you also just can use the file from win7.
I made this a tool because of the ownership, permissions and so on. With Restore all will be restored as the default.
