Yesterday I played with Skip Metro Suite code. I found out it is possible to use Userinit and keep the speed same as service. I will release some updated version of Skip Metro Suite soon, so maybe I will try to play with userinit. Anyway, I think that KRANZ solution is best way. Hehe. If someone will find the way to avoid the re-activation, i will use it
I just want to confirm that: Registry: ClientExperienceEnabled Works under W8 if the policyvalue is 0.
But doesn't work this way, if value is deleted, it is same as when it is =0. (There are only 3 icons in charm instead of 5 and no PC-Settings option at <WinKey>+<I> screen bottom.
Hm sad. I thought this would work. Because in W8 with the edited policy it worked and than I finaly understood what you mentioned about losing the pc-setting in charmsbar.
In Developer Preview, there was this nice tile for Immersive Control Panel: I have Developper Preview in VM, but I can't figure out which registry key or file, will bring this tile to Windows 8 RTM Start Screen.
How was your windows activated before? retail? mak? kms? It simply is native But only works of the default behavior that windows normaly wants to load into desktop otherwise the fix wouldn't work.
Hi, I am the author of the blog post on exploring Windows Server 2012, and I think, the first one to discover this registry key... What exactly is "policyvalue"?
Yeah, that one (I'm not allowed to post links, yet) Thanks, I figured it has something to do with the license, but I haven't seen that one... I since then learned to just "live" with the Metro start screen. I just press "Desktop", and don't let it bother me I'll have to check out your (or rather, KNARZ') method... are there W8 things that go missing, when the W7 license is applied?
Very cool, thanks for the info! There are some areas, perhaps, that could be explored, to make this all work without ANY "hacking" (maybe just a Registry change)... I think that in Safe mode, W8 will boot to desktop by default, so it's worth looking there (by tediously comparing two Process Monitor snapshots) Also, I always wondered as to what exactly happens in Windows when it detects the registry setting. I mean, which facility is it exactly in Windows that loads up the "immersive" shell. The registry setting is merely a flag, isn't it? Something else is going on... Sounds like another weekend hacking adventure
Haven't tested Safe Mode, but there is one audit desktop shell exe for launching into desktop in audit mode. this should maybe more investigated but currently i have some critical rl projects to earn money for living.
