What he/she said! After more time and experience with the newer version, disabling "performance counters" seems to cause a few "problems", break a few features. Correct me if I'm wrong on the reason, but since that change was made: 1. The GPU temperature is not reported in Task Manager > Performance Tab. 2. AMD (graphics) Software does not display "CPU Temp" (or was it CPU Utilization %? or both?) in it's stats overlay. Shows "CPU Temp~Util = 0".
No, no, no. You get this error because original Windows Start Menu is NOT installed when ReplaceStartMenuWithOpenShellis is set. It is intentional. What is the point in installing 2 different Start Menu Shells running simultaneously ?? How would this fit with the idea of slimmed down Windows ?? It is normal when SPP tasks are removed. There will by no solution other than to remove Software Protection Platform tweaks entirely from the script source. I explained this many a time and I don't want to talk about it yet another time. It is just cosmetic, safe to ignore and thus will probably never be solved.
did my best, but like last time. It's not meant to work this way just an Experimental, use in VM only I don't take any responsibility, of using it, this way
wkeller...I have been using your scripts for win7 and win10 with zero issues. The disabling of the ad infested start menu is a great work. Ignore the useless nerfherders and keep up the great work with the fully functional and option filled scripts making windows better for us, the better, respectible people.
Totally agree, there are some that repeatedly troll here, with nothing constructive to add that 'feel' (as thinking is obviously and clearly not involved) that anyone that disagrees with them is, with reasons clearly and objectively described, and I'm quoting "is stupid" -- the petty insults are just ridiculous. Slimdown10 doesn't cost anything, no one is forcing anyone to use it, wkeller doesn't owe anyone anything (except maybe a little more respect for the MIT license, wink-wink, nudge-nudge), and if some of these people would make a fraction of the effort wkeller has made and look at the script; they'd learn that the very thing they're bitching about is an option. What's more you don't see ANY of these people putting anything together that is as accessible, or popular as wkeller has made here -- hence I suspect in at least one case all the petty histrionics, insults and jealousy... All anyone has to do is take a look at my post about wkeller's hiatus from the thread, to see that there's far more that missed him here, appreciate what he does and wanted him to know it, than those come here to make a stink, troll and be obnoxious... Wojciech, we love ya! Illegitimi non carborundum
Did some cleaning job. Once again, a constructive criticism is always welcomed, but blatant trolling will not be condoned, period. If you don't like the project, then kindly move on, but don't pollute the discussion thread. Have a suggestion, or something to contribute? Then do it like a proper community development.
I think that this is not necessary, because of this line already included: Code: REM Unlimited max password age echo net accounts /maxpwage:unlimited ^>nul 2^>^&^1>>"%~dp0mount\Windows\Setup\Scripts\SetupComplete.cmd"
IIRC, the N editions of Windows include a little browser downloader instead of Edge in order to comply with EU demands, it might be nice to turn that on.
I feel the same, except I love System Restore being nuked, I have Macrium for that. Just goes to show there's no way he can please us all, so thankfully he has left most of the "controversial" settings as easy switches. For me, the new Chromium policies were a "deal breaker" (forcing and locking Google as default and only search in a de-googled browser makes less sense than leaving the the default start menu with openshell), but I had no trouble finding out how to change them back (see post #908) just by scanning the Slimdown script. So yeah, you do have to learn a bit of what this script does and tweak to preference, or just like it the way it was made. But after that, it friggin' rocks and saves me a lot of time from the old way of spending hours "fixing" what M$ gave me by default, or using the aging LTSC and still having to tweak a lot anyway. For me, Openshell Start menu > Devices and printers > right click > add devices and printers > seemed like it was going to work. I don't have a printer connected, but it did "search" for one for quite a while before I canceled it. So it behaved as expected and did not crash or error out real quick...if that helps at all. Changes I made to the script: Performance counters left on (to keep GPU temp in task manager, and AMD statistics overlay working), Software Protection section removed, and IPHelper service set to manual after install (to stop errors in event viewer). Don't know if those would have an effect, but there it is.
