@gutentaghallo OK. In a new test, with de-de_windows_10_enterprise_ltsc_2021_x64_dvd_71796d33.iso, everything went well, without errors I downloaded this image: de-de_windows_10_enterprise_ltsc_2021_x64_dvd_71796d33.iso Updates used in the process: Windows10.0-KB5011048-x64.cab windows10.0-kb5011054_de-DE-x64.msu Windows10.0-KB5056578-x64-ndp481.msu Windows10.0-KB5063709-x64.msu See the attached full log file. You could re-download the ISO image for further testing.
No, I'm sorry you misunderstand: I continue to use Windows 10, Linux, and BSD UNIX for 99.999% of what I do with personal computers -- I have an application that needs Windows 11 on a work notebook. I don't need or want COPILOT either, even on this one notebook installation, BUT, Microsoft is starting to integrate AI crap in File Explorer in Windows 11 and calling it "File Explorer on Windows 11 with AI Actions", so you CAN NOT uninstall it or hack it out -- so it has a lot more ways and means to spy on what you do. Again, I was wondering for this one application which Windows 11 ISO has the least s**t, and as I haven't been paying attention to the builds, is this AI Crap already rolled into Windows 11's File Explorer? Looking for the lightest weight Windows 11 ISO to rip crap out of with the least intrusive user hostile trash...
@hoak, the Windows 11 latest release will be 25H2 (this Oct), sounds you prefer NOT take it. for early version, I was using tiny11 (tiny11 2311 x64 and tiny11 core x64 beta 1) b4 I have jumpped on SunLion's boat. tiny11 can be as small as 2 GB. easy to use. they are W11 23H2-based. but you cannot setup any controls on it. it's un-changeable. In contrast, SunLion's release can do what you please.
Thanks you, I'm just trying to ascertain what is the official MSDN Windows 11 distro that has: 1) the least default trash as a starting point, and 1) will still be supported after October with updates (that hopefully won't update to the horrific 'AI Enhanced' version of File Explorer). The idea here is the build of Windows 11 that has some longevity, and is the least user hostile for running Slimdown10 on. This is a thing I don't even really want, it's just something I need to do for a job, as Windows 11 is completely user hostile, and going the wrong way, in every way.... Hope to do more research and testing this weekend. The bottom line is none of the Windows 11 choices are good, it's like Microsoft presenting: 'Would you rather eat rat poop or bat poop?' and all I want is an Operating System...
Difference between 23H2 and 24H2 is significant. Well, you may say 24H2 is garbage-rich. Meanwhile, from this Oct, MSFT supports on any earlier than 24H2 version will be ending (W11 23H2 22H2, W10, W8/7 , , , ) So, you are forced to jump into that hole, happy or NOT. As I know, Slimdown10 method doesn't apply to W11. but Slimdown10 is best preferable method. Slimdown11 method, prior to 23H2 and 24H2 are different. Post-24H2, Slimdown is much more complex.
What about the IoT and LTSC IoT builds of Windows 11? "en-us_windows_11_iot_enterprise_ltsc_2024_x64_dvd_f6b14814.iso" and... "en-us_windows_11_iot_enterprise_version_24h2_x64_dvd_3a99b72b.iso" In the case of Windows 10, these were ARE the best -- but I've never even tried these for 11...
In viewpoint of telemetry, what I have read, W11 LTSC much worse than W10 LTSC. MSFT has learned a lesson from W10 LTSC. MSFT offers W11 LTSC long-term servicing/support meanwhile makes it garbage-rich too. user has to take what please and what NOT please both same time. Clean while long-term servicing/support. MSFT says NO. it's a user's dream.
Unfortunately, more traditional telemetry that can be disabled or blocked may be preferable to what Microsoft is doing with AI integration which includes a method for telemetry that will be very difficult if not impossible to circumvent. Windows AI integration in Apps and now especially worrisome File Explorer, allows AI telemetry to scrape your system and use NPU or GPU very similarly to how Intel's IME and AMD's PSP are accessed externally by government -- that is it's completely opaque to a User, even with an Administrative account, as you can't see anything running to stop or block it... There may be some hope in IoT, LTSC, Server, or the new Xbox Ally Game OS version of Windows Home apparently. Another longshot, but not impossible is if someone finds a way to run a usable shell on Windows 11 Validation OS we'd have something really light weight 'just an OS' version of Windows 11... In the meantime I need the most expedient thing.
I spent all day editing and testing the script for 22621. Simply put, if you use the system with Windows Update disabled and other junk turned off, I think you can have a lightweight system for quite some time. Of course, this means you won't be visiting dangerous websites and other things. It would be a bulletproof system, as long as you don't have access to certain Microsoft offers. I could be wrong about that, but I think it's worth a try. Cheers PS. It's already late at night here and now I'm going to bed. Tomorrow I'll try to finish testing and publish the script. I hope it helps.
