You conflate disdain, frustration my sense of humor with 'hatred' -- I have zero hatred, the assumption there is all yours. While I am disappointed; I mostly find the Clown Circus that is Microsoft Marketing that now runs OS development entertaining, and certainly deserving of everyone's disdain... Windows for the most part, for everyone -- is not a choice and I use other Operating Systems when and wherever I can: BSD, Linux, GNU Linux and even some arcane alternative project OSs like Plan9 -- unfortunately I like most people am required to use Windows where I work, and like a lot of people I have a lot invested in software that only runs on Windows...for now. Spoiler: Confusing Just as an example, it's true that the update you're referring to is currently optional, but it's also true, and you seem to have overlooked it, that at least in M$'s intentions, it would have been useful for IT administrators to test some stability improvements before they presumably become mandatory with the next update on next Tuesday. Obviously, I'm talking about KB5079391, which is the predecessor of KB5086672 target of your ferocious criticism, which was released in a hurry to resolve a slew of restart loop issues with its predecessor all over the world. It's certainly not uncommon for M$ to see the above happen (I'm obviously talking still about KB5079391), even if it seems incredible that they didn't test it thoroughly enough before releasing it, but there you go. I'm only saying this because I'm balanced enough to realize that an operating system as widespread as Windows, which caters to a user base of which "we enthusiasts" are only a small portion, while the vast majority of "end users" simply want it to work with whatever they've plugged or connected to it as their only primary need without the slightest concern for how or why, certain things can still happen because, as far as I know, perfection isn't of this world. Then, at the end of the day, if we want to talk about multinationals in general and how the world currently seems to be moving solely towards satisfying their insatiable thirst for power and money, trampling on the entire human race and disregarding minorities, then you'll always find me willing to discuss, criticize, and give my opinion, which is diametrically opposed to prevailing capitali$m mood. There are a lot of run-on sentences where I just don't understand what you're saying, all I can offer is that the choices Microsoft makes with the Windows OS, because this is a monopoly product, and many of them have been very bad in terms of stability, privacy, security, and performance, warrant mention in a thread where the project is intended to resolve a lot of these issues. The one sentence that does draw an emphatic conclusion: Again, In this thread it has everything to do with the topic as it's Microsoft's Marketing digression from OS development that has caused the problems that people here, me included, are attempting redress. Warning people that a particular updated has as or more issues than it's intended to fix, doesn't seem out of turn to me at all..
The funny thing is, I like the work you do and would love to be able to put into practice at least some of your suggestions or procedures, but I see no sign of it. Maybe I missed something, I don't know yet. After having installed and used Windowz 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 on a daily basis with great (my) satisfaction a few years ago, lately I have been trying to understand if there is any reason to prefer Windowz 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 instead (apart from the 2 extra years of updates) and I have been trying it for a few days. Without making any comments about it yet because it would be too early to do so, just yesterday I tried to find some tool that could disable "unnecessary" services because lately I refuse to do it manually (just as I always did) for my own reasons, considering the fact that I normally like to do everything possible manually instead. So, again, I would love it if you could make a guide, a list or something similar to be of concrete help. What I disagree is bad language and reading the word "s**t" repeated continuously in every possible declination. In my eyes this debases your work, while I would like to see it exalted. For example, even the stones now know that M& is a monopolistic company, and I don't see the reason to repeat it in almost every post. If it's not "hate" then it seems a somewhat childish attitude in my opinion, no offense intended of course, since it would be strange if someone who makes billions of bucks was a saint, wouldn't you say? From my personal point of view, if you can't change what's "bad" out there, you can at least try to improve what's good in you and in your work. You, and all of us, would gain from it. You thought that some things I say are against you, but that's not the case.
Logan, I am sorry if some of my language offends you, that is not my intention. It is my intention to be graphically humorous and alarming because a lot of people are not appropriately concerned or even aware of the direction Microsoft is going, and a lot of damage that is and be the done (to them). The reason there are so few scripts for automating disabling Services, is everyone's hardware is different, as is what they need turned on in the way of Services just like Processes. What I suggest is making a one time effort to learn what you need, and make a list of those Services you don't, and creating a batch file to disable them. For example, I commonly disable these services, and quite a few more on every system I use: Spoiler: Commonly Disabled Services AVCTP service BitLocker Drive Encryption Service Bluetooth Support Service Computer Browser Connected User Experiences and Telemetry Diagnostic Policy Service Diagnostic Tracking Service Distributed Link Tracking Client Downloaded Maps Manager File History Service IP Helper Infrared monitor service Internet Connection Sharing Netlogon Program Compatibility Assistant Service Print Spooler Parental Control Remote Registry Secondary Logon TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Windows Error Reporting Service Windows Image Acquisition Windows Camera Frame Server Windows Insider Service Windows Search Some people will for example use a printer (I never do) and disabling the Print Spooler will disable sending documents to a printer, but it's a real resource hog and great to disable if you don't need it. Secondary Login is a similar but even more divisive Service as it's a big security hole, but some game services like Battle.net require it, but it gives them access everything on your PC. You can easily find out if you need a Service (or not) by just stopping it and seeing what happens, or get a more in-depth idea of when it might be needed by asking one of many AI -- though they will give you a very cautious answer. Once you have the list you know works for you you can make a script that will do that for you automatically post-install every time you install Windows as a work saver -- you can even ask AI like Gemini to write the script for you and it will. For those Services that are on the fringe of needed, like WiFi or Bluetooth you can create a stop script that just stops them, not disables, so they'll either start automatically when needed or when you reboot your system. Regarding Windows 10 IoT LTSC vs Windows 11 IoT LTSC, in terms of form that follows function of just an Operating System doing what it's supposed to do (no aesthetic concerns) Windows 10 IoT LTSC remains the superior OS in virtually every way for the vast majority of consumer use cases in terms of performance, privacy, security, stability, compatibility, and user interface capability -- the only shortcomings are some companies are phasing out driver support, and security updates will end January 13, 2032.
Thanks for sharing this script. It’s really useful to see all these tweaks in one place, especially for customizing Windows 11 images efficiently.
Disabling the Windows Error Reporting Service service may result in installation errors for some large software.
Yes, but it never has for me, and it generates an enormous amount of i/o and background load that is not needed in daily OS driving. Many Windows Services have an exception like this, and they're very obvious from the error messages Windows will throw up. All you need to do just reenable that concerning Service when and if it's needed. I much prefer the extra step for the added performance, battery life where that's needed, privacy, and security where they're always needed.
Thanks for your much-appreciated response, even if things appear as well-known and has been done for a long time by anyone interested in saving resources, Writing a script wouldn't be difficult, but I'm not interested in doing so. I just imagine a simple piece of code with a GUI that provides a general overview and simple buttons for the various settings (Manual, Disabled, Automatic, etc.) and an overall view on a large screen, which was what I was looking for... I believe that kind of choice is also and mostly a personal choice, in practice as well as in theory, and I think everyone knows exactly what they want and need. My nick is Logon, but it seems you like Logan much more instead.
@SunLion Glad to see your thread has moved proper here, under Windows 11. I'm in travel, using more and more tablet. Windows would be only run in my main office. Hopefully, will test your new release soon.
