you're right, I've spent endless formats trying diff. drivers. I'm gonna just stick to what works (Win 7 Pro + the official drivers for my laptop)

    thanks

hmmm, just installed the original drivers that came with my laptop, I thought everything's gonna be slower. to my surprise, Windows has never felt snappier! gosh!!! I wasted 2 months doing 0 formats (each format consists of waiting for an hour till Windows update finishes) and 30 mins configuring my 30 shared network folders! bloody hell!

original drivers FTW (they are so old but they work like magic...soo good)

PS: note to self, stop updating drivers they are not software that needs to be constantly updated :nono:

oh so you're like me? always looking for diff. drivers thinking they would improve things?

particularly speaking about nVIDIA Drivers which have been the most stable drivers in the past, and what I liked is that if you buy a laptop with an nVIDIA chipset, you are no longer under the mercy of your laptop manufacturer to release driver updates as the nVIDIA Drivers work on all laptops. After the drivers v311 every nVIDIA driver although promises to bring X amount of increase in FPS to certain games, they were all buggy as hell, no wonder they keep releasing drivers now like every 2 weeks and we customers are part of this beta testing it seems.

no I'm back like 20 versions to v311.41 and the performance is much better. Even 2D rendering in Windows is much better the later drivers seem to give me like a jerky / slow motion

heck, even playing a simple game like Solitaire was jerky on my GeForce GTX 770M

I hear you NVidia 331.65 or 331.87-quadro on my geforce 770 4g, give them a shot. As far as updating motherboard drivers I have never had a problem with things that did work no longer. As far as usb 3 and intel with windows 8 and 8.1 it has never worked right and there are no driver updates. Intel are not producing drivers so we are left with M$sh!t drivers. Who knows why, because intel is taking a stand on certification costs or they are just lazy (however windows 7 usb updates come out regularly). Whatever the reason usb 3 does not work right with intel chipset and windows 8, that's a fact and you can not fix it other than installing windows 7. That is why I asked in the update 1 thread if the eXtensible Host Controller drivers are updated in update 1 (never did get an answer). Hey but you can now have 2 full screen appz running on one tablet that you bought from their store with your live account ... :roflmao:. That's is what is important to M$ now a days.

Which is why I am forced back to Windows 7 now because I cannot live with a 10 MB/S USB 3.0 transfer speed. Windows 7 gives me like 110 MB transfer speed on the same driver with the same drivers + offcouse the USB 3.0 Extensible Host Driver for win 7

That is a fact and if you care about your usb transfer speed that much than windows 8 is not the OS for you. Me I have usb 3 devices that do not even get power from my asus board and are not recognized in the bios unless they are in a usb 2 port. They had it half ass fixed 2 bios ago (hit and missed) but it is gone again. As you have been told never update your bios (motherboard driver either) use the one that came with your board :D. Too funny LOL.

hmmm, even in Windows 7....I just tested

When copying any *.WMV file it goes from 100 MB to 144 MB/S

But the problem is with *.MP4 files, they do not exceed the 5 to 10 MB/S

What it the world could cause this problem?

Just copied a .mp4 movie @ 1.5GB from WD My Book 3.0 to my SSD.

Speed was about 120MB/s which is just about the HDD's max sustained speed in HD-Tach. (130MB/s down to 110MB/s at and).

Took a few seconds to copy.

I've noticed a discrepancy in the speeds between asus usb3 on win7 and win8 as well.
On win8 it's not terrible for me, but the write speed is still lacking. It's still overall faster than usb2 but not by a whole lot.

In win7 I seem to recall using the asus special usb 3 drivers to overcharge or something that comes in their software package.
I'll play with it on win8.1 and see if I can improve the speed or at least figure out what's going on.
For the record, the starting fast and ending slow has to do with the file system caching, not the write speed.
But the sustained file transfer speed should not be that low.
