You really don't get it... SLP 1.0 is to pre-activate copies of Windows Xp, Server 2003... it has nothing to do with Vista/Windows 7 The AMI/AWARD mod tools just provide a option to mod a SLP 1.0 string in your bios I already wondered why you were so interested in a topic I posted more then 3 years ago
AH, so in fact i can leave that option and dont need to use it in those 2 tools. Nobody ever told me what the SLP file really does. Thanks for this info
you could (should) have read it Anyway, if it was your goal to provide these for use with the AMI/AWARD Slic tools you better could have posted it in those topics, it's kinda misleading in the in the Windows 7 section
Yes...You should do some reading to understand the activation scheme you have on your computer. I cant believe that you blindly use a tool to modify your bios without knowing the actions. No disrespect, but SLP is all over the forums....
No..If you do not want to add a string for XP, leave it blank. If you are just using Vista or W7, leave it blank SLP=XP SLIC=Vista and W7 They need not match...
I think they have a use. They should be linked to from AndyP and his tool pages. The ones with valid memory ranges are great. Some likely will not work, but that is up the the modder to sort out. I say caveat utilitor
I am still curious in your notes why you recommend against SLP for Dell and relate it to not activating W7. They are not remotely related. Due to memory address requirements and the tool placement: Code: You use Dell system for all award bios and ami bios for WHS. You use dell computer for AMI bios. These will allow the activation of Dell XP/WHS/Server2k3 Again, SLP for XP has no effect on activation for Vista or W7.
That being said, I assumed modders will leave an existing SLP string intact when modding... is that correct? Reason is that my CPU doesn't support VT so the "XP mode" will never work so I'll need a dual-boot with XP (where SLP activation will come in handy).
If they are there. Most mods include the SLP as default. AMI is just too easy. @H10: They are text files for the AndyP tools to allow addition of SLP for XP. If you dont know what they are for, the info is moot. Not necessary for anything but XP activation
