So, what am I doing wrong? In Win7 command line as Administrator; I can get dmi /R (reads and displays info), but when trying writes I get "waiting..." . What I am trying to do; I had to replace the motherboard in my Acer Aspire 3680, and I want to have the BIOS report the NEW (to it) product name, serial number and uuid, so that if I ever sell it....? you know original.
Sorry to ask dumb question but my brother have acer aspire 4540 with insyde bios so as I see dmi kit for acer n I really dont know what to do. Here is what I do : 1. Make a bootable usb disk with pure dos (I used winpe2.0, is it ok?) 2. Extract all 3 zip files (dmi_kit.7z, acer_asset_tag.rar, AcerDMI.7z) into bootable usb disk without its folder (I united in DMI_KIT folder) 3. After I boot with usb disk I type : dmi /ws (serial number) dmi /wp Aspire 4540 dmi /wu (UUID) 4. Reboot. Is it correct step? (I usually use award tools for andy p that required rw everything, load the original bios flash data etc so I don't know if I use DMI kit I'm using the correct step) Thx in advance!
This utilities should be run from pure DOS (from bootable DOS media). I can not Understand the reason you try to use it. As far as I understand, this utility to be used before flashing mod to read the UUID, and restore it after flashing in case it is erased.
WinPE is NOT a pure DOS ! Do not do the things you do not understand! If you need bios mod for insyde bios, please post a request in the respective topic.
The reason I am trying to use it: I replaced the motherboard. Now the new BIOS reports no UUID,no Serial Number, no Product Name . It makes no difference to the operation of the computer (thanks to Orbit30), just if I ever try to sell the machine, a buyer might be aware enough to question the BIOS. Is there some other way to accomplish this?
Hmm anmg, I have allready mods my bios (ACER 4540) n the things I wanna do is to restore to its default factory setting (Manufactured,Product Name, etc) n sorry if I didn't completely explained cuz this internet connection really really makes me mad I had restore the dmi setting but what I dont know is how to add sku number n where do I know it? I check with Everest but there's a warning bout DMI may have incorrectly setting, so I search the problem n it seem this one : ManufacturerACER ProductAspire 4540 VersionV1.05 Serial NumberLXPFN0C032945602A51601 SKU#123456789 FamilyType1Family Universal Unique ID03311270-5E4B11DF-A08A0800-200C9A6 Seem SKU field r incorrect, now how do I found it? At the back of the lappy I found a barcode with this number 2245155102541 LX.PFN0C.032 & the other one SNDID : 94539389316 so what is the correct SKU should I add? Last bout the asset tags, what is the default for slics 2.1 n what command should I add cuz after I mods the bios the asset tags still empty. Note : I'm boot use pure dos now (yes u're correct, winpe is not dos )
I second this question. Still haven't found any of the HP DMI tools to work with the Mini 110 (HP or Compaq). It has an AMI BIOS and is presumably manufactured by Inventec. Any clues?
Tito, i thought as much most OEM machine still have SLP 1.0 in them even my dell inspiron 530 which came with Vista had SLP 1.0 but i have noticed on some later machines i,e, Dell for example that come with Windows 7 when you go to dell's site to download drivers XP drivers are not available but i would stll think SLP 1.0 would still be in DMI area but you never know
I copied these tools into an bootable USB drive with pure dos, but after i run the command dmi /ws XXXXXXXXXXXXXX the system hangs while displaying message "waiting" in the screen. It does not go further. Somebody please help me with the problem.
So is there any chance i can get slic enable on my notebook. it is acer aspire 5740 with core i3 and phoenix bios
