There is legal 8.1 key issued by MS so far to Technet/MSDN. On GA, anyone can also purchase a 8.1 licence key if they wish to go directly to 8.1 without going from 8. Why should the only process be to buy 8 and then upgrade to 8.1. Maybe MS will soon stop production of 8 in box packs.

 

Even a Windows 8 child user knows that the above method works i was referring about the GA release and it's process, which would be completely different so i said for that we have to wait.

You'd want a proper win8.1 key from your win8 key simply because of user experience... using a different key to install and then having to run some scripts or random software off some forum to then change that key back to a windows 8 key for most users is simply terrible user experience. I am quite happy to do that process but haven't cos I don't see why I should? I have been waiting for general release simply cos I want to install using my own key and then have it activate as soon as it detects an internet connection, who really want's to think about this stuff even if it is trivial to more experienced users?

 

You are right, the average user wouldn't even know where to begin. Imagine MS pushing 8.1 through store and WU, and everyone had to enter a GVLK key just to install it, and then find their own OEM key. HAHA I would pay to see that in a live conference though!

 

For ISO upgrade, it will probably download updates for the Setup components, resulting in Setup taking the 8.0 key directly. They might even go as far as to release .16385 ISOs with updated Setup (or a KB like for the Media Refresh).

With Store Upgrade they can verify and accept any key they want.

 

I wouldn't put it pas MS to have us input a key to download 8.1 from the Store.

 

How can organizations activate their Windows 8 pro after 18 October, if MS doesn't release the new KMS V6, it will make it impossible to do so, probably no one will upgrade to version 8.1

 

I'm sure KMS wll be available come tomorrow. Even though MS can be dicks, I high'y doubt they are that dumb to leave their VL customers hanging like thaat.

 

Organizations with VL agreements will receive their 8.1 CSVLK.
