    Hi.
Do you know how to disable dns client service in windows 10 fall creators update?
In creators update there were options to deactivate this service.
In fall creators update these options are disabled. I can't disable dns client service in services.msc.
I need to disable this service due to use a huge host file with more than 40k lines.
Is there a way to disable it via regedit or command line?

    Thank you all.

    Thanks for the heads up.

I wonder why they made it difficult to disable suddenly.

No DNS = no internet, it could be disabled by malware or other software. Hardly anyone knows, how to setup DNS manually.

Sorry to bring this thread up again, but I've been trying to find information on diabling it as well. As far as I've read so far, the DNS-Client service only caches already resolved DNS requests so it shouldn't be vital to your ability to connect to websites. Has anyone else found out why it isn't being allowed to disable it via Administrative Tools -> Services anymore?

DNS Client (svchost.exe) resolves DNS requests by default, if they are repeated, it uses stored DNS entries. If it is disabled, it will result in an error and internet, nor Windows updates will work.
