I don't think my motherboard supports legacy bios. Also even if it did, I don't think I could run Windows 7 on a Coffee Lake CPU. Probably that's why the motherboard doesn't support legacy.

As for using 8.1, which should I use this iso: en_windows_8.1_with_update_x64_dvd_6051480.iso ... How would you activate it? Would the toolkit work? Doesn't the Toolkit just convert it to VL ISO and then activate it with an KMS emulator?

So use a 8.1 Pro or Pro VL iso? Does it matter?

Also what do you mean by "real upgrade"? I dled this iso: en_windows_10_multiple_editions_version_1511_x64_dvd_7223712.iso

    The iso is correct.

ps, any proper KMS solution inserts the KMS Client Setup Key (aka gVLK), so that shouldn't matter for KMS activated win 8.1 pro.

I see but I still don't understand how you would upgrade 8.1 Pro VL directly to Win 10 1511

By mounting the 1511 iso inside the running 8.1 and start setup.exe.

Yes it worked. Though once you upgrade, it'll say activated by key or something, then once you do a clean format it'll say activation by HW.

How long will M$ keep this loophole? WIll it end along with the assistive technologies at the end of the year? :g:

Yes, after the upgrade to 1511 it will state it's MAK activated, but the clean install will be HWID activated.

I don't mean he has to stay on 1511 : once he has got a HWID on 1511, he can clean install 1709 or perform an insite upgrade.

Not sure what you mean.

I installed the latest pro meaning it's the multiple editions (Fall Creators Dec)version and I just added the ei.cfg to the flash drive, then chose pro during the install. I don't know of any Pro only MSDN 1511 ISO's.

There is no 1511 pro only oemret iso, that's why i explained how to make one yourself. For some, unknown to me, reason, the ei.cfg doesn't work on the upgrade from 8.1 (at least with a MSDM for 8 Core) > 10 Pro using the multiple editions iso (with ei.cfg).

For me it was the easiest way to just export the pro index to a new install.wim and replace the original install.wim with the new one, put it in the iso (or in your case in the extracted iso folder).
