You'd know if you read the first page of that thread.. The Simplix Pack is only for updating Windows. You dont integrate this pack to Boot.wim (as its setup and recovery environment) Am I getting it right?
I dont use Simplix packs. I use individual updates manually downloaded. All i see on that topic is "install wim".
Mostly beacuse I wasnt sure what you were asking.. As long as W7 x86 is integrated to W7 x86 Install.wim it doesnt matter which edition. same goes for x64. No such updates for boot.wim exists. I never seen such anyway.
I did try to be specific as i could(many are not). So as far as you know, there are no updates for the boot wim. So when i see "installation updates" they would be for the install wim, downloaded and installed during setup then Thats all i needed to know, Thank You
Just open every msu and check if there is applyable on WINPE mentioned, or run all updates, dism will skip the ones who can't be integrated in boot.wim (that goes for 8 and 10 at least).
Mount boot wim, add all updates and let dism sort them out? great Thank You Enthousiast I'll make notes which take and which dont.
What update do you expect on boot.wim? Surely they don't go to integrate something like the USB3 drivers, and even if possible improvement in the recovery environment could be expected, is better to use a win 8/10 media for recovery purposes. Just update your install.wim and live long and prosper.
See here is my problem. 3 people who know their onions and 3 different opinions. If you all had the same opinion 1 way or another, that means there is a definative answer. 3 differing, Thank you guys
Imoe I haven't found any issues by not updating or integrating any updates into boot.wim, with the exception of USB3.0/3.1 drivers and Mass Storage drivers. Note that I only use my customized isos for clean install though. EDIT: I've performed in-place upgrades with no problems either.
It;s mostly important to update winre.wim (same winpe updates) on 8.x and up because of the newly (8.0 and up) implemented build-in recovery options. I also never updated 7 boot.wim and winre.wim.
Im going to mark topic as solved, but i dont want it locked, i will post what updates boot.wim takes.
@Enthousiast Lets not miss the point here, OP is talking about boot.wim for Windows 7. All you've said about higher OSes is right...
If it is applicable to 8 onwards, then it is nice to know(for my own use) and for other users who may find it helpful knowing that and will save me and them making new topics
One tip, abbodi1406 has made Windows Update integration scripts, i only use the one for 10 but maybe you can find an answer for your questions about 7 in the win7 script or when you trial run it.
