Hi, I used to run Windows 10 bootcamp on my Mac which I received as a free upgrade from MS, I can’t remember if my old version (Windows 7) was genuine or not. But windows10 activated successfully. Now I am however unable to activate my new fresh w10 installation. I don’t remember if my old key was associated with my MS account. I tried calling MS, but that was a waste of time. Appreciate if anyone have any idea. In worst case Iam considering to activate using other methods. As far as I can tell the options then are KMS or Toolkit. I am however a bit sceptical to both in terms of security. Are there any other safe options for activation? Thanks a lot in advance
Thank you for your quick reply. I’m moving towards Toolkit (actually used it in the past for office without any issues). Being a bit paranoid, I know the tool and developer(s) have been around for years, and based on feedback and use have a good reputation. But to be 100% sure, is it closed source? I tried searching a it without any luck. When Toolkit is activating KMS is it against a “piracy server” or is it done differently? Or in other words how is it different from KMS activation done manually in CMD? In advance: sorry I am sure my questions have been answered many times before
Localhost ... ie... Your own computer. Never trust any tool that wants to use someone else's servers (there are a few out there, but you will not find them here). All the KMS tools here on MLD keep it on your computer and do not dial out to anyone else's.
Update in case someone else has the same issue: I entered my old w7 product key and voila w10 activated. Very disappointed in MS who refused to help me since I didn’t have the receipt for my w7, and referring me to Apple since this was a bootcamp installation
Windows Activation has upset me and an untold amount of other folks out there, that even a quick Google search can easily reveal the amount of frustration that there is surrounding, Microsoft's activation. You are clearly not alone. The last time I purchased Windows, I purchased my copy of Windows directly off of Microsoft.com (Microsoft's own website) and that still has not stopped my problem (namely my copy eventually becoming "invalid"). Again, a simple Google search will show that I too am not alone on this issue. Although the more "comical" problem I ever faced was when I purchased a new computer directly from either HP or Dell (I cannot recall which) and neither HP/Dell or Microsoft was willing to own up on why mine was "invalid" out of the box. These days, I figure, why bother?! I simply use KMS and all my problems are solved.
