[SOLVED] - Windows XP Professional x64 Edition HANGS when shutting down the computer

    My Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition HANGS when shutting down or restarting the computer !

    What could be the cause !?

    It gets to the blue screen with the the message "Windows is shutting down" and just hangs, until I press and hold the on/off button.

    That was a known-too-well bug with Windows 95 and Windows 98, but never had that with Windows 2000 and later.

    (I used to see Crotched Mountain PCs with Windows 95 and Windows 98 crashed at the "Windows is shutting down" screen often!)

    The Windows 95 and Windows 98 issues were acknowledged. There were hotfixes.
