That's always a problem with beta/rc service packs, and that's also why you ned to be very careful with installing them. I'd say "Have a nice day formatting your hdd" and keep of beta service packes, except in a vm.
Found it on Softpedia: X64 version checked out ok on file hashes haven't checked X86 version but i assume it will be ok as well i would've posted a link but need 4 more posts .
wtf, just spent 4 hours downloading SP1 to install on one of my VMs, and Microsoft's own Security Essentials prevented me from installing. Nice one!
No need to format/reinstall. Just image drive or partition before installing. Very simple. I can restore my C partition in less then 3 minutes.
I always recall that there very definitely is a way to uninstall them, unless you explicitly opt not to save the old files during installation-- which I didn't even notice was an option in this case--or remove the files later, which is unwise. The user should click "Installed Updates" in the Win7 Uninstall panel. It's in the left column. When he does, he'll see "Service Pack for Microsoft Windows (KB976932)."
Ummm it just occured to me that this early release probably has nothin but all the updates and maybe a few tweaks to the Operating system... They're probably still trying to upgrade the Windows Activation Technologies thing so that its a bit more reliable against the current hacks out there both public and private alike... I'll have a look at this but what I'm really interseted in is the final build for windows 7 sp1...
July says: No need to format/reinstall. Just image drive or partition before installing. Very simple. I can restore my C partition in less then 3 minutes. Hello and thank you for your answer. Indeed the KB976932 (SP1 V172) is present in updates installed but when I click on it, nothing happens, unlike other updates. This is my problem. I do not want to format because the SP1 Final comes out in July. The advice from our friend Aly I do not understand how. Someone an idea? Thank you by advance. Regards from france. Eric
Simply check the history and view the updates. the uninstall is there... unless you used Disk Cleanup, which removes the uninstall, then you have to use RESTORE which works very good, unless you disabled your RESTORE, you also should always make a FULL BACKUP prior to installing any BETA... so 1st open Update -> click view history -> then check installed updates. you should find the Service Pack for Windows. -> click and uninstall...
as someone else said, I installed on a VM last night and noticed about 2Gb less being used. It actually saves space somehow. Not that that should even be an issue these days....
If you deleted the service pack uninstall cleanup files I believe you may need to do a clean total reinstall. That's what I had to do with one of the Vista sp2's and the 1st 7 beta. Beware of disk cleanup, etc.
