Folks, Now that SP1 is available on Windows Update, it seems that all SP1-related updates are active now (including language packs for the Ultimate edition). A new version of KB971033 (published today) is offered as an Important update, but wasn't selected by default for my system, at least.
just installed this new update KB971033 (published today) , and winows is still active, running ultimate 64bit with sp1 and daz loader
KB971033 is on my system from 18.5.2010 - no problems at all. Activated with loader cca in october 2009. No new KB971033 in today´s updates. EDIT: KB971033 appeared in updates on Win7 installed from Win7 SP1 image. Activation remains (used loader 1.9.7).
I'm bit confused. I'm using x64 Win7 pre-activated with OEM keys (some older loader, I think from Orbit30). I never had KB971033 offered to me. What I want to know is, will SP1 update install KB971033 for me or not? Or will it be offered as separate update? Or neither?
There are indications that it actually does contain this update. Go to the following page Documentation for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932): www(dot)microsoft(dot)com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=61924cea-83fe-46e9-96d8-027ae59ddc11 And download the excel spreadsheet: "Hotfixes and Security Updates included in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1.xls" in the second sheet there is a list of updates and hotfixes included in the service pack. What you'll see is that KB971033 is included so the answer is yes, this update is included, do your homework FFS!
*sighs* Of course, when we, "FFS", do our homework, you would like for us to do it right and not take any lazy shortcuts, right? You see, looking up some spreadsheet and then taking on blind faith that it is sacrosanct and correct does not, in my book, constitute doing a good job of doing your "homework"; it's lazy and sloppy. Going straight to the source, cracking open the SP1 update and examining it closely, however, does. And when you do that, what do you find? None of the new WAT-related files are found anywhere in the install image in the integrated ISO. None of the new WAT-related files are found anywhere in the SP1 updater. So the answer is no, KB971033 is not included. Oh, and there's also the minor detail about how the actual evidence in the field supports this conclusion and not yours. There is one person who claims that they got WAT from SP1, yet their WAT has an install date from July of last year. Tell me, what's more likely? That one person has an experience that is in contraction to everyone else's? Or that one person installed WAT in July of last year and did not realize it until now? So why the discrepancy between the spreadsheet and the actual update itself? We can only speculate, but I suspect that it might have something to do with "humans are fallible". Maybe they intended to include it but forgot, or maybe there was never any intention to include it, but the KB accidentally got included in the spreadsheet. Given Microsoft's official stated policy towards KB971033 (that they intend to preserve the ability to "opt out" of it; read up on what their spokespeople said during its release), I lean heavily towards the latter. Whatever the case, the only thing that truly matters is what's in the SP itself, not what some person copied-and-pasted into an Excel file.
