Got the new Win Aero Skin for Classic Shell working for start menu. Working not bad. Having fun with this ver of Windows.
That Quick Launch Start menu trick won't show contents of both per-user and All Users Start Menu folders.
Vistart, RetroUi Pro and Classic Shell 3.6.6 are working others don't work. I have also tried startisback it doesn't work.Ex7forW8 doesn't work either it will just go to black screen and you have to use task manager to start Windows Blue explorer again. Little offtopic: Aero glass for Win8 doesn't work not even older versions. I tried version 0.6 and 0.5 also in addition to newest one. Considering all these it would appear that Microsoft is actively trying to push their vision without allowing other opinions. I think that eventually at the time of Windows 9 they will realise what huge mistake forcing this vision to everybody would be (this will happen in case where Windows 8 and Blue fail and I think they will fail.) and how that would cause massive losses in sales numbers. I would suggest everybody to stay with Windows 7 and not use Windows 8 with third party hacks and replacements. That would give stronger message to Microsoft.
Before Classic shell 3.6.6 came along it did not work properly as you could not see the start menu orb at all. And it also had some setting issues from what I saw in the Virtual Machine I had running. Update to 3.6.6 from 3.6.5 and you should have no problem
Or alternatively,Microsoft are doing something a lot simpler - they are pruning unused code wherever possible as a way to additionally streamline their OS. After all, the biggest selling point of a piece of kit like StartIsBack is that it utilized legacy code left in Windows and thus essentially it lives on borrowed time until Redmond cleans up the aforementioned junk code. As for your suggestion about reverting to 7, I have an even better one - people should use what they believe is best for them,not rely on broad generalized statements online
