Thanks If i want to disable only the Windows Update i can use this /COMPONENTS="a\Enable" or /COMPONENTS="a\Disable" ?
You can disable the update without disabling update service that's the first choice with command line /COMPONENTS="a\Enable" or /COMPONENTS="a\Disable" Example: StopWinUpdatesv1.3.exe /VERYSILENT /COMPONENTS="a\Disable" If you want to disable Windows update service ( You can't download apps via store ) that's the second choice with command line /COMPONENTS="b\EnableService" or /COMPONENTS="b\DisableService"
First post updated to v1.4 Improved GUI: - Languages option removed since the options will be in English only - Welcome screen removed - Notes page removed - Now the GUI will start at the options page
First post updated to v1.5 Improved/Cleaned the script: - Since each system have it's scenario now each a few versions will have it's commands ( For example Windows Update Medic Service only exist in Win10 1803 ) - I won't update it again unless there's something worth updating
[Fixed in v1.6] In Win10 1703 or older store apps download/update won't work with my tool, sadly the way store is related to windows update in these versions and the way i disable the update wont make both work together Thanks Demencial777 for the report
First post updated to v1.8 - Fixed when enable updates value only in registry being deleted not the key - Added one more registry
I did mention the mod in Kaspersky topic i posted above so they can remove the detection again In the meantime you disable Kaspersky then download it and exclude it, or wait until they remove the detection Update: the mod reported it
I'm not deprecating your work here, just mentioning the following as a reference Since i used WUMT Wrapper Script by @pf100 months ago (Thanks to him & friends btw), i never heard about Windows Update anymore!
thank you very much @BALTAGY this looks very good. i've few doubts/ques regarding this tool. 1. can i be 100% sure that after using default "disable update option" windows will never download and install updates? 2. what if some security program tries to keep my system uptodate by try to running updates. what will happen in that case? 3. will defender definition update work as usual? 4. would it be possible that windows might automatically install windows update agent or something like that to update my system? 5. can disabling update option may help in any way to disable updates? or there is no need for it? 6. is it supposed to work in 7 and 8,1 also? thanks
@pf100 Did a great job with he's tool, but this topic not about he's tool, glad we have many ways so all people can choose what they like 1- I been testing it since i started it and didn't see any updates again, didn't receive any reports that it's not working 2- I did try ESET now and it told me there's an updates when i pressed install it open windows update page so it didn't work, Why not disable check for windows updates on the program it self ? 3- Tested Defender updates and it's working fine 4- If the system can't check for updates then it shouldn't install windows update agent, even i never seen it in my life while disabling updates "without disabling update service" 5- First option "Disable Windows Update" is enough to disable updates without disabling windows update service, so store/defender/edge are working while updates is disabled 6- Yes it support Win7/Win8.1/Win10 until v1803, still who knows what they will do next
