You didn't answer my question in post 2, nevertheless assuming you see the Asus splash screen
Step 1Boot up or restart your Asus notebook.

Step 2Press "F2" continually when the first text or graphic appears on the screen.
This allows you to enter BIOS.

Step 3Make whatever changes you require in BIOS. Ensure that your DVD is booted first
Your mouse will not work in BIOS, so you must use your keyboard by navigating with your arrow keys and selecting items with "Enter."

Step 4Press "F10" to save and exit BIOS.

Then see if your dvd will boot.

I think you're missing the point
It's saying Reboot, ie step 1
    (step 2 is implied)
and select proper boot device, ie step 3
or insert boot media in selected boot device, ie this means put a bootable media in the hard drive, usb , or dvd drive or whatever boot device has been selected

Please repeat steps 1 and 2 and tell me what the boot order of devices

    like this:
    Boot Option Priorities
    Boot Option #1: P2: Slimtype DVD A DS8A9SH
    Boot Option #2: P0: ST000LM024 HN-M101MBB
Boot Option #3: UEFI: IP4 Realtek Ethernet Controller
Boot Option #4: UEFI: IP6 Realtek Ethernet Controller
    Boot Option #5: Realtek PXE B02 D00

    or this:
    Boot override
    UEFI: IP6 Realtek Ethernet Controller
    UEFI: IP4 Realtek Ethernet Controller
    P0: ST1000LM024 HN-M101MBB
    P2: Slimtype DVD A DS8A9SH
    Realtek PXE B02 D00

The first one will boot the DVD first, then the hard drive

the second one will boot the Ethernet connections first then try the hard drive , and will wait forever if the drive is corrupted, and never get to the dvd.

This is sort of good news. ;)

Please let us know how the new disc goes.

Not said this for a while, burn the disc as slow as poss, do nowt else with the PC while it's burning.

Please though, do get a USB stick, at least 8 gig. Makes it a whole lot easier.

yeah I'm getting a USB stick first thing in the morning, though I have no idea on how to use it. To be honest I never even knew you can possibly install a OS with USB :( Shows just how little I know
