dism (or its better open source cousin wimlib) is everithing we need since Win7. Before W7, the obvious solution were the ones from Powerquest, Acronis, Paragon... I never trusted things from norton or macrium
I did use it before gpt s*** since new uefi & gpt technology arrived I had to move to a new offline backup software like ... CloneZilla and also make a dual boot for both Grub & Windows make things very fun ...
Still dism/wimlib is most of what we need today If you use the native vhds explorer or the copy command will do the job in an even simpler way
