    1) Not true
    2) Norton Ghost runs 3 additional services--one of them being a (redundant) scheduler.

Can you post the name of the service here? I am currently running Norton Ghost 15, haven't seen any extra service.
Are you using other Norton product at the same time?

    Hi all,

I am using Acronis currently. I am puzzled by its speed and size.

I backuped my system drive under the rescue media. The original size of files is 12.4GB, I set high compression (it said the size should be around 6.4 GB) and validation. It totally took 34min to finish the backup and the final size of the backup file is 12.5GB.

    Is that normal?

I ran no other Norton products while testing Ghost 15 under Win7 64 in order to compare it to what I normally use (it lost on every point).
    Norton Ghost installs the following services;
    Norton Ghost (Automatic)
    SymSnapService (Automatic)
    Symantec SymSnap VSS (Manual)

I believe it may also start some other services set to Manual (Remote Desktop--a total of 3), but I cannot confirm this any more.
It also installs (a non-service, but a running process) Agent/VproTray.
More than a few seconds were added to startup upon install.
What I normally use installs no services or running processes--in fact, it can be run from a USB stick without installing it at all--, is faster (by a factor of two, in minutes, averaging around 100MB/s), and has better compression.
More troubling (at least for me as far as sticking it's nose where it does not belong) is changing this:
    Information: NTFS partition: opening volume...
    to this:
    Information: Opening volume \\?\SymantecSnapshot2

I ran one-click backup on desktop for the same partition, it finished within 10 min and the size is about 6.7GB.
Perhaps there's something wrong with the rescue media.
    Thank you for the information.

    Strange again.

When I backup the 1.19GB document drive to a 2GB USB (high-speed), the speed and size are like this
    1. under rescue media, normal compression, 5:04 min, final size 1.03GB
    2. under desktop, normal compression, 6:00-7:00min, final size 1.03GB
    3. under desktop, highest compression, 5:59min, final size 1.01GB

It's so strange, I can't believe my eyes.

Well, it seemed not the problem of Acronis. I did some extra test for the same document drive.

To backup to the same USB by Norton Ghost 15 (high compression), it took 12:10min and the backup size is 1.01GB

To backup to an external hard drive (5400rpm) by Acronis (maximum compression), it took 1:23 min and the size is 1.01GB.
To backup to an external hard drive (5400rpm) by Norton Ghost 15 (middle compression ), it took 2:26min and the size is 1.03GB

According to the speed, Acronis won.

I would try uninstalling and reinstalling acronis.

    R-Drive Image

I've used Ghost and Acronis. Both work but have become bloated. R-Drive Image doesn't leave a bunch of running services in the background to do its job like many other. I have been using it on several business customers systems and servers for several years now. Works perfectly. Works on servers without having to pay many many hundreds of dollars for a server license.
