Malwarebytes is good, but on the other side it consumes way too much RAM for my taste.

yep, but some older rigs or boards do not allow this amount of RAM though. I was running a Xeon machine with 64 gig ram and had to use a magnification glass to find such minor issues called RAM-usage, just saying

I have 8gb on my machine, and do not even notice I am running Malwarebytes. I have Defender turned off, and only MBAM running. No issues.

anyone else experienced problems with Avast? After installing Avast, it cripple my system with freezes. I also checked that Defender was disabled (Avast auto disables it) Immediately after uninstalling Avast, system back to normal again.

I don't like Avast, too much adware. It tries to get you to buy stuff. :( Windows Defender does a good job especially with MBAM as backup. I use only MBAM without any problems.

It's all El crapo, big business making money off you by scaring you, windows defender works fine for most people unless you are into downloading warez or some pron sites, lol, and best of all, it's free.

Windows Defender & Malwarebytes is all you need.

I use Symantec Endpoint Protection myself. I like it and it is updated for win10. Once configured, it works like I want. This is my preference but everyone is entitled to their own opinion and preference. :)

ESET is also good ,,,,, it work really good ,,, ram usage is low and never see any high cpu usage too ,,, I too never wanted to have any sort of AV and didnt had in 8.1 and early days of 10 .using Defender + MBAM combo ,,, but 4 days back one of my friend plugged a usb and after that i suspiciously find high cpu usage whenever i connecting to internet or sitting idle,,,, I knew something wrong ,,, I installed ESET and upon scanning i found 3 virus and continous message like "ARP poisioning attack prevented by ESET " ,,,,,, quite shocked that MBAM didnt detect those on Usb scanning ,, Thats why i Prefer dont ever believe when Microsoft says "This is Most Secure WIndows Ever crap " or something like "Your Brain is best AV here " ..... in real world u need AV (of any kind )

I thought I would contribute seeing as everyone else is.

While if you abstain from pirated software you are pretty safe, I got malware just from dodgy ads on a site that exploited an unpatched firefox vulnerability a few years ago. I didn't click yes on anything or accept anything FF crashed and that was it. The malware was easy to remove but what if it was a virus that would make my computer part of a botnet? What about if a websites serves you an infected PDF or flash file that exploits a 0day that hasnt been patched yet by Adobe?

If you are smart about what you do you are pretty much safe. The way I see it is by buying a decent AV like bitdefender or kaspersky and turning off the unnecessary/unsafe features you can be more confident about the security of your system. But I also accept that AV is definitely not foolproof, if you are unfortunate enough to come across something the AV vendors have not detected yet themselves you will likely still get infected..

Another thing I will mention is that there are crap AV products. But as with everything you need to research and choose wisely.

Not really an antivirus, but I plan to use the same proven setup from 8.1

    Faronics DeepFreeze + Faronics Anti-executable.

    I disable windows defender.

    Light and secure.
