Researchers at MIT have developed a prototype 3-D printer that is up to 10x faster than current consumer printers. One of the things that makes this much faster is their use of a laser to help melt the plastic faster. Once this technology makes it to market I bet we see much faster adoption of 3-D printers in businesses and homes. You can read about the abstract of the research here. Check out this video of the tech in action.

At the end of that video, there's a machine that 3-d prints an entire house.

    That's so cool. :)

How much $£€ and how big a printer, in order to print my house of dreams in full size, with all the different materials/alloys/etc. d'you think? :D Can I also make my own EV, a la Tesla Model X the same way? Or a guitar?!? :p YUM! :D

If so, then Star Trek tech is really on its way, non? :D :D :D

Oh, FFS, now they've done it, with this "discovery" - the Social Darwinists will go nuts... :p

Joe & co. - could you have imagined hand held "communicators" and those "tablets" they were holding when the series started?

Who remembers that brick you could use as a defensive weapon, when the first mobile phones were introduced? Etc. etc.

And now, they are starting to build nano-probes killing only tumour cells, regenerating tissue fully, growing meat in a lab...

And one doesn't even wants to start talking about cloning, genetic manipulation and a whole host of fundamentals...
