I will also post stable torrents when available. Also I am thinking up a somewhat redesign of the repository, including a windows 8 backgrounds section as well as other cool stuff!

I think I'll wait until crack/patch for 4GB memory limitation on 32bit OS released, like win7 before, since I have 5GB of memory and i'd prefer 32bit rather than 64bit.

    Why?

The patch just allows for PAE (Physical Address Extension), which many 32-bit stuff may not work properly with. It is therefore recommended only for server environments since they don't have lots of different programs loaded and use a limited driver set.

What benefits for you do you perceive of x86 over x64?

I've experienced quite a lot of stuff and programs didn't work properly in win7 x64, in past 2009 I guess, since then I stopped using x64 and back with x86 with PAE hack. But do you think a lot of stuff and programs are working properly with better compability to x64 currenty ?

Very much so! Even most old programs work properly under x64 now, the exception is if they have 16-bit components (pre-Windows 95, which you must remember was out 17 years ago!). Even DOS programs can work properly under x64 using Dosbox.

I agree. I was pretty shocked 2-3 years ago when I started trying 64bit.(considering 64bit windows had been around for quite a few years) But now it is better. Except for browsers. Still no decent 64bit browser.
Even in Windows 8 64bit all the real work seems to be done by iexplorer.exe 32bit. So when you start Internet Explorer you get both iexplorer.exe files running.
Firefox and Chrome 32bit run just as fine as on 32bit OS.

I run 64-bit Firefox (nightly build mind you, so currently 17.0A1 (2012-08-04). It makes use of Flash x64 (which is installed with the normal Flash installers now) and Java x64. There are a few different Firefox branches that people can try, although they may not all be stable.

The only reason why browsers are still mainly 32-bit, and this goes for several other programs as well (media players, encoding software etc) is because of the slackness of third party providers to provide x64 versions. Even when x64 versions are available, they are by no means as optimised as the 32-bit versions. That said, even if not optimised programs running in x64 are 'faster'.

    Nobody said anything about faster.
I used Palemoon for a while and now I use Waterfox, it is a bit faster than Palemoon.
But both are still slower than 32bit Firefox on 32bit OS.
Who the hell needs Java Plugin in FF? Only attracts viruses.

I don't know about Waterfox or Palemoon, I never use neither. I use Mozilla x64 builds.

x64 is faster than 32-bit, not just through being able to access more memory. In a proper environment its 40 percent or more. The problem is, it is hardly every utilised to its full extent. I use Nightly more out of interest and it works for me, and if there is an issue I report it through the reporting system so it can be fixed. I have mostly just the occasional issue, and nothing serious. Good thing is that because people like myself do this, there issues get resolved!

But in any case, generally x64 should be what is used now unless there is an absolute necessity to use x86.

I have tried waterfox and palemoon on my systems, they both crashed and I had errors left and right, tried to make adjustments but it just never worked,I believe a browser should adjust to your system(hardware) not the other way around

I would rather that this repository be populated with original MS/digital river links rather than second hand links.
The official windows 7 repository was extremely trustworthy.
Perhaps a start can be made by entering the enterprise evaluation links.

Digital River links will not appear until at least the date of retail release in October so, ain't no sense sitting around waiting for all that time I suppose, 2+ months.

Finally updated for RTM. I have the torrents and the Enterprise links up as well as some new FAQ questions. If you have any ideas for me to add please let me know. Also for those of you who are impatient for updates please realize I do have a job and am busy a lot. Sorry for the delays. Also please stop asking the moderators to edit and add new content to the page as I will add it when I feel it is time.

Thanks for all your support and I hope this thread will help you all with everything Windows 8!!!
