Yes i did...i now think all of this happen because of an activation method. there was a post on this forum where someone list ways to activate Windows 8.1 by replacing some token and rename some folders to .bak etc. i did follow those instructions and windows was seen as "activated". and then the issue started yesterday. So i guess thats the reason why..Just gonna have to re-install windows

i currently have win 8 enterprise and want to update to 8.1. When I try to install it (with bootable usb) and wanted to keep my files and program, i keep getting this message. Then i tried running the setup.exe when windows is booted up, However the only option they give me is "keep personal files only" and "nothing" . How do i get to keep my programs and files?
to keep all files you must install 8.1 within W8, no direct boot path available. In order to keep everything, the install media must be the langugage version which was used during W8 install. If these versions differ, you cannot keep everything. After that you must install the 8.1 language pack/file over it.
Thanks. yesterday I install win 8.1 over 8, it ask me for the password for my local account. The thing is that I didn't set a password, so I was locked out of my computer. I eventually did a clean install but i'm still wondering why it ask me for my password
since I never use local acc, I cannot answer this question but I'm sure some members will guide you through
Usually when you make a clean install and continue connected to the internet, you have only the option of creating an account using a Microsoft account. Disconnected from the internet, when making a clean install you have the option to create a local account. I use a local account, and when I want to use any App which needs a Microsoft account, I enter it separately.
yep this is the standard way to go but unfortunately does it not answer out friend's question. Why is there a pass request for a local acc which was never protected by any pass?
