The keys provided in the first page are generic keys. You can use them to install or upgrade your Windows, but cannot use them to activate. For that you'll need legit key you have bought or which came with your system. Also you can use KMS tools for activation.. "With Update" means it's latest available iso, containing so called Update 1, which introduced taskbar in Modern UI and other changes.
Thanks! Why is there no Enterprise VL and Retail? Or is it automatically VL because it is for enterprise use? Which KMS tool is best to activate these?
enterprise always is VL channel and can be installed without key. Activation work just fine with MTK and Kmspico
Oh ok. But why is there a key for enterprise in the generic keys list in the first page? Where is it used? Thanks for pointing me to the right tool.
Hello I'm downloading windows 8.1 single language pt br, but I have a doubt, that comes with the Windows UPDATE 1 (KB2919355)?
I was surprised to read that (seems far too easy) and thought it might come in handy in the future, so I tried this in a VM: 1) Installed Win 8.1 (Core, not Pro), skipping key during install. 2) Opened admin cmd. 3) slmgr.vbs -ipk put-vl-key-here Got this back: Error: 0xC004F069 On a Computer running Microsoft Windows non-core edition, run slui.exe 0x2a 0xC004F069 to display the error text. Running that further command says that "the product SKU is not found." So, then I thought, maybe 8.1 needs to be activated first. I happened to have a legit 8.1 key and activated it via the System menu. Tried slmgr again, same result. I don't think it's objecting to the key I'm supplying to slmgr but rather the edition of Windows that I'm using. But why, and what can be done about it?
@bjf2000 You're trying to install Pro VL key (-9D6T9) on Core, which is always impossible. You should install Core GVLK (-6XWKK).
OK, thanks guys, 6XWKK worked, but I think I've been looking at this wrong. I was thinking that there was a way to take a legit MAK and supply it directly, job done. That's what I was trying above (I never used any of the generic install keys). However, what I'm assuming now, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that I need to use the VL key for the same edition that I have (Core, 6XWKK in this case), from the public list, and once that's done add/apply my actual MAK (an Enterprise key) in System. If true, I never would have suspected that, since AFAIK, a Core VL edition doesn't even exist. Yet, there's the key.
Yes, Core wasn't meant to, but I thought that applying the VL key would convert it over, like the FAQ seems to say. When I first read that, I thought it was interesting, since in the past I think you had to install your VL edition on top of your retail edition to convert it (and even then I think you had to make a simple Registry change so that Setup wouldn't object). What does the FAQ mean then?
There is a KMS Client key for Core but no MAKs at all. As said you need to upgrade to Pro to use a MAK .
Sorry, I'm getting up to speed on this, I think. OK, so this is a valid path to get from a retail install to being able to use your VL key: Core Pro (retail)-->slmgr this key: CoregvlkProfessional (9D6T9)-->supply desired Pro or Enterprise MAK in System. Too bad there isn't some way of tricking Core into this, but you can't have everything.
