My original key for win8 works on win8.1 (using same version)
In the installation didn't work. But i put the ei.cfg on the original MDSN iso (to pass the request to insert the key before installation) and then after install 8.1 i put my key and it worked.

 

if your key is legal, simply ask Microsoft but you will not get another answer afaik

I did a fresh 8.1 Ent N VL install and there is no mechanism to activate by phone. If you do slui 4 you get View attachment 24198 . I'm posting this for reference in case someone else has the same question.

 

you misunderstood me: I said call Microsoft and question them how to use your old key. That it will not work by slui 4 is obvious
