Here's a little trivia about the oembios.bin file size: Windows XP was released in 2001 when the most common connection method to the internet was a dialup 28k modem. To discourage sharing of the oembios files, microsoft made oembios.bin 13 megabytes in size. With a dialup modem, this file would take around an hour to download. When windows vista was released in 2007, most people were connecting to the internet using a high speed connection that could download a 13MB file in less than a minute. And microsoft realized that having a 13MB file with less than 1k of useable info inside was no longer an effective deterrent to piracy. So the current vista/win7 xrm-ms digital license files are now much smaller and don't have all those unneeded hash blocks inside anymore.
Just want to say a big "THANK YOU!" for all those who've contributed to the information in this thread. I've managed to restore my ThinkPad (originally came with XP Pro) and a friend's ThinkPad (came with XP Home) without needing Activation. The OEMBIOS files for IBM work on both Pro or Home Editions without issue. Thanks again folks!
Thank you very much for your contribution, bigfoot15! Both OEMBIOS file sets have been added to the archive. CPS - Channel Partner Solutions (OEMBIOS.CAT CRC32=9271294A) Code: f000,e06c,0032,Channel Partner Solutions Premio (OEMBIOS.CAT CRC32=9B5B2D15) Code: F000,0000,FFFF,OIMERP
Can someone PLEASE help. I tried the procedure to make a retail cd an OEM. I used my original (never activated) win pro (no service packs) as a test. followed the procedure exactly. when I ran oembios in windows it said I needed the hp-compaq files oembios.cat crc=cd4e1902. after windows installation she wanted to activate and it would not accept the R38TB product ID. I then made a bootable floppy with oembios on it and ran it from from the floppy boot and it said there are no files available for my bios. This is an epox mobo ep-9npa ultra+. It has a phoenix award bios. I am not a programmer and a nubie in this endeavor. I briefly read something about adding a string? If someone could point me in the right direction to get those 4 files (maybe they're available and I don't know) or tell me how to make a modification (if possible) it would be much appreciated. regards...
ok thx, I'll try it. cant do it till monday. plz check back in a few days. no one seems to be reading this thread anymore..thz urie
No worries i will check and see how you got on and if needed i will upload the files needed just replace the ones in your i386 folder.
You have an AWARD bios..not phoenix. The slp should be easy to add in the event you do not have one. It is funny that you would have an HP string in an epox board..Bios mod?? If you need the HP string, use the DMI disk..otherwise I can add it for you. I can add almost any SLP you would desire at that point.. We read the thread, but I have times when I am busy for days at a time (literally)... -Keep the faith!!!
911 thx much, faith restored. this cert, slp, slic stuff is new to me. I'm trying to learn bios modding and other related stuff like this. knowledge is power. fyi, I agree I have an award bios but strangely to the left of the word award on POST there's the word phoenix...hmm. again I really dont understand why winxp wont activate using the hp string. apparently its not for my mobo. sorry I'm confused but the learning curve is slow with post, pms etc. but eventually it will work...any other info greatly appreciated. I have an A+ certification and been woking on win computers for 24 years, but when something is new, well I guess I'm a little slow, but I'll get it. thx ron
Then you know that phoenix was a single company making the phoenix award bios until around 1997. Now they are completely different bios structures. The moniker stayed.. Until recently, there were phoenix, award, and AMI bios...now we have old style insyde bios, and newer UEFI firmwares...Just FYI You have to add the SLP strings most likely.. Run the oembios.exe and see the readout. If the bios is factory and unmodded, you will most definitely have to add the slp to DMI. The cd is safe and is not considered a bios mod. If you have the SLP added to the mainbios, the whole game changes. Upload or link to your bios and I will be happy to check it for you.. Another FYI..The SLP and adding the SLP strings for xp is not new..since 2002 for DMI strings at my recollection.. The newer methods for strings without valid DMI ranges are a bit newer..
Sorry guys. Like users before, I am a little better then the average user, but this SLP stuff has got me for the moment. See I have 2 computers that took the recent update and now I get the 'Not Genuine' nags. I dl'ed the tools and when I run 'SLP_CH-1.EXE' i get the following response Windows XP OEMBIOS Test ................ F:Asus OEMBIOS.CAT CRC=2411858c F:Genuine OEMBIOS.CAT CRC=8B2EBECB F:HP & Compaq OEMBIOS.CAT CRC=CD4E1902 ........ I downloded the 'uncompressed' files for 'Genuine OEMBIOS.CAT CRC=8B2EBECB' and ran the change oembios app, chooseing the uncompressed format. All seemed to work ok. But I get the 'Not genuine' nag still. If I run 'MicroDink Genuine Advantage Diag Tool' 'Validation Status' has red letters 'Blocked VLK' I am not sure what I am doing wrong here. Any insight will be helpfull. I have never played with this kind of activation before!
911medic has been helping me out. I'm still waiting on a PM response from him. these guys are busy. I'm sure he'll get me to see my error and point me to the correct files for my bios. keep the faith. regards...
U are using a VLK key ??? You are trying to swap from VLK to OEM preactivated system... maybe u should use OEM:SLP key
Thanks guys. I don't know what the hell I am doing!! LMAO. I need to read more about this before I open my mouth again!
hey when you find out lemme know cause I'm in the same boat as you. havent heard back from 911. guys must be busy...regards
