I agree. If Microsoft allows Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox to run in PURE Metro (not hybrid), then I would be extremely happy....

I don't understand. Is anyone actually keeping Google and Mozilla from writing Metro apps??? Microsoft provides the tools necessary to write Metro apps for joe-blow (you and me), how is Microsoft keeping Google and Mozilla from using them to write real Metro apps? If Google and Mozilla can but just aren't, then that's their choice and nothing Microsoft does can change that. My speculation is that Google and Mozilla have just implemented Metro in the easiest manner consuming the least amount of development effort, but that over time, assuming Metro is here to stay for a while, they will transform Chrome and Firefox into real Metro apps at their leisure. Makes sense to me. Why go all out immediately on something which isn't even sure to be a success, at least for a while?

hmm...i dont think so....i've been using windows 8 on my samsung slate 7 and for me IE is the best there is. it has a few glitches for sure, but people we are talking about software that is still UNDER development. it is supposed to contain a lot of bugs....also the new IE is not just about some cosmetic changes, but rather it is being optimised to work on both touch and pc eco-systems. M$ is trying to provide you with best of both worlds.also there is a good html 5 engine on IE. i'm simply surprised at the way it handles the web pages. they load really fast and scrolling is damn smooth....on the other hand if you look at apple, they are releasing OS X mountain lion. all that they've updated is to include a 'share' button, a notification center, unified search in safari(chrome has this since ages), reminders and note taking apps....sh!t looks the same and they are asking 19$ for that piece of crap...windows 8 might feel incomplete at this moment, but as time goes on more and more applications will be ported to run in the metro interface and you just wont have to leave the metro world. its a good thing that you pay and you get a new EVERYTHING.

Most of us forget: W8 is not finished yet. It is beta until RTM and only then, we can compare this new OS with those which are on the market since a while including all features like IE10, whatever

Bahahahahah! Google buy M$, bahahahah. We remember it was the other way around recently.
I would never put that crap on my computer, ever. Chrome really screws with your machine, especially when you try to uninstall it, especially screws with outlook system files. Some people will never learn. Oh well. :icecream:

I had to login Just to reply to this thread.
I'm using win 8 RP on a HP-dv9910us notebook. On my custom built computer I'm sticking to win 7 because I still like win7 and its plenty fast enough.
I love Google chrome. On my win 7 machine you cant even compare it to IE9.Chrome is three times faster. As for my notebook, I will run win 8 when Its released.
The reason is because it is twice as fast than windows 7.Ive installed win 8 on my desktop and there wasn't any speed increase. So I put the image of win 7 back on. There is a few things I don't like about win8.One is how they hide everything in different places than win7 and as far as I'm concerned its more of a service pack.

Now back on topic. In the Consumer preview, chrome was just as fast as IE10,if not faster. But now that I went to RP, Google chrome is slow as hell.IE10 is way faster. I've tried both chrome version. I stuck with the DEV build of chrome. The reason I think chrome is way slower is that RP has IE10 optimized to try to get ppl to like IE better. Every time I open chrome it says RESOLVING PROXY and then it loads. I hope it gets fixed because I would use chrome but until then I have to go with the one that's faster and for now that's IE10.
One more side note. All my drivers was installed under CP but when I installed RP, 2 drivers aren't installed now and I cant figure out what they are and I've tried everything.

In Windows 7 I always head to the Programs & Features section and uninstall IE from the list. I guess one could easily do that in Windows 8 too, haven't checked it.
My point is, uninstall IE 10 and be done with it.

Who uses IE these days anyway is beyond me.

Firefox and AdBlock Plus is the best thing ever.

Well they better fix that for the RTM release then.
Still I wonder... I remember when I fixed my Metro Start page, I right clicked on IE but was it unpin or uninstall because some of the junk you could uninstall from there.

Well only time will tell I guess.

yep, tried all others, firefox, opera, seamonkey, safari, chrome etc....but keep returning to ie.

a uptodate hosts file and configured filtering settings in ie is more than enough to block ads in ie.

To be honest, I found Internet Explorer 10 very good. I do have to agree, it's pretty bugged right now in Release Preview and can lead to some annoying problems, but if you look on the side of being a web developer are you pretty happy.

This new version can render many new CSS3 and HTML5 features without any problems just like they did part of it in IE9. Now with IE10 is there for developers only more options to make 3D effects in your website and animations through CSS. Further is also not only Windows 8 changed to touch but also IE10. The browser can work very well with touch and for developers is there even an options to catch a touch enabled browser. So if I want to make a site that works normal with mouse click then I can do that like always. But if I want the site to change a bit to make it also work good with touch then I can do that too now with IE10. I'm pretty sure Firefox and Chrome will follow this up..

On the other hand the more browsers there is the more pain its for developers if they try to support even half of them. There is always some user who starts whining it looks ugly with his antique IE6

Then you create some hacky workaround for IE6.

It was bad enough even before html5/CSS3 with various browsers randomly working or not working with some elements and techniques you wanted to use...

EDIT: Or in this case you might do something that works with IE10 but isnt yet supported with firefox or chrome and in the end you need to make double work to get all of them supported. In ideal situation all browsers worked same way but in reality its not always the case..
