I did that for quite some time. But the point is that I still can not choose which update to install.

Is there really no way to set an Ethernet connection as metered?

Microsoft does realize people have metered connection.... even over ethernet.... right?

Just disable automatic updates via registry and use portup (portableupdate dot com) to select the updates you really want. :D

If you're using LAN just disable the Windows Update Service. Worked for me :p

Why do you use show/hide tool? Does that gpedit trick give options like previous OS?
Also that show/hide tool can only be used to stop reinstalling updates. It can't be used stop them being installed at the first place.

How I did to disable automatic updates on Pro and Enterprise when using ethernet.

    1. Open Group Policy (gpedit.msc)
    2. Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Configure Automatic Updates
    3. Tick Enabled, Set Configure automatic updating: to 2
    4. Window + R, Enter "gpupdate.exe /force" to force group policy to update or restart computer.

After doing this I got notifications about new updates and it only download after I press Download manually.

Can't you just use gpedit and set Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components ->Windows Update -> Configure Automatic Updates -> Notify for download and notify for install?

It seems to be working here (Windows 10 Pro): i.imgur.com/XrQNYXO.png
