If you ask me, all this means nothing, yes you may be able to have offline computer say activated, but it means nothing as it is not activated on MS Servers, if you don't believe me, logon and reboot. And no a backup copy that says activated means nothing too as system has to reboot to put backup on, you know what happens then. What does it matter if it says activated on your computer and not activated on MS Servers
But it IS activated on MS servers (as it was originally and NOTHING changed, same HWID still present)
Hi there, I want to backup office 2016 manually. what files do I need to backup please ? Thanks for your help.
And that would change what? It was activated previously on SAME hardware, hence HWID hash never changed, it was re-installed on SAME hardware, activation restored, so connection to MS severs will NOT change anything. Or you thinking of something else?
@sebus I think or thought the object of this was to save activation on a legally activated computer to reinstall if for some reason the computer lost activation, why would you need to backup a activated copy if it is still activated on MS Servers. The bottom line would be what would be the reasoning behind backing up a activated copy if it was still activated on MS Servers, the only thing that comes to mind for me is something changed, you lost activation, you put a copy of this back on in offline mode, it will say activated on your offline computer, but if MS Servers have deactivated you, this tool will not change that
It can restore it, not activate it, nor can this tool, unless eligible on MS servers, this tool in a offline mode may be able to have your computer say it's activated, but it's not really until you go online and reboot, people that think they can backup a activated copy, for what ever reason, lose activation, reinstall this and think they will be activated, bend over and grab your ankles When would you use this tool, when you logged on and it said not activated, so you hurry up unplug Ethernet cord, use this backup so it now says on your computer you are activated, but in the back of your mind you know your one online reboot from the truth, so my question is.....
@sebus, that's my point, why do you need backup of a legit rig, there is only one reason to make a copy of activation, that would be to fool people into thinking they could put this back on and be activated, or is there some offline activation benefit I am failing to see.
Ya NP, we don't know what you know or don't know but there might be others outside the we group that visit here and didn't know, that's why I included the some.
@Chrystopher Thx for this tool, its exactly what I was looking for. My usage scenario is to avoid at all costs having to associate my activation with any online account, and I prefer not to have to deal with Microsoft support either. Originally I ran into an issue but found it was due to a having renamed the folder tool. Backup went OK, only time will tell if restore will also go and work as intended. Thx I guess.
When this tool was developled there were only hwid available for home, pro, and their n editions, all hwid's are bound to the hardware they were established on and all automatically get re-activated as soon as the corresponding OS gets installed, no need for any tool to backup the hwid.
