    Hi all,

Looking at various sites around the world I see that the old Vista trick does indeed work on 7 as far as using the Upgrade disk goes.

Install upgrade disk 7 as trial version and then reinstall same upgrade disk agian on top of itself and it will accept the upgrade key.

However there is a one step version to this that simply allows you to clean install with upgrade disk as trial version (enter no key)... then run some command prompts to register..

It would be fantastic if someone could code a simple app to replicate these steps so noobs could save a few bucks by getting the upgrade version of the software, but register by using this simple easy tool. :)
They are no good at command boxes and command prompts.

Any good samaritan...... can you help?

The app allows you to enter a key and offers two options.

    1. Install key ( slmgr -ipk )
    2. Check Activation status ( slmgr -ato && -dlv )

so you can do a clean install then use slmgr.vbs -ipk to input the key? I thought you had to do the 2 install trick or that registry trick in the other thread.

I do a moderate amount of home user work so the more I can find out the better situation I am in.

    1. Clean install Windows 7 using your purchased Upgrade Disk.

    2. Do not enter your key during install.

    3. After successful installation, use this little tool to insert your key – then press Activate.

Thx to Secr9tos 2009 for creating this automation tool. :)

I'm glad to hear that you like my work... Oh and don't forget to run the app as Administrator if you want to install a key.

    cheers

    Nice work. :)
However is it possible to make a bootable "upgrade Disk" unstead of having an old OS on the partition ?
I mean wiping windows XP before and boot from Win 7 "upgrade DVD" ? .

I just receive my pr-order from MS and the 2 DVD are not bootable. Is it possible to just add a boot system using UltraIso (example) and install from scratch. ???

just follow the steps to make a bootable thumb drive it is faster and easier than decompressing an ISO and making it bootable. You might be able to inject the boot code into the disk but i don't know, I think you have to recreate the whole ISO.
