    How could this be solved?
Do we have a free signing service?

As I understand the Dell Optiplex 990 comes with Windows7, so why do you need to patch the bios? Or am I completely wrong?

The SLIC table is hidden if you buy the machine with Linux

Search the forum for the tools/info how to unhide it

Shamus talks about the Asset tag, so I think he already tried that. I have a DellBiosReset.iso, but I don't know if that one still works with newer machines.

I believe it is possible to extract the bios from the exe (in fact the phoenix tool leaves the raw bios .hdr in the creation directory, or run the bios exe with the -writehdrfile switch and it will do it for you. Then you can use an alternative flashing program with it.

Also, I have read that asset.com or exe is being phased out and there are new programs taking their place. I would check around (search) the forum for those.

What are the advanced options that I use to just change the SLIC table?

    BIOS: INsyde H2O 3.5

    Thanks

the machine came without an OS, so no SLIC table present

I have not found anything on the web how to unhide the SLIC table other than this blacklisted A02 BIOS that cannot be flashed anymore. If Sebus could point me in the right direction that would be grateful.

the -writehdrfile switch no longer exists, it will simply ignore it. The only switches left are to make it silent, nothing else :(
That is also why phoenixtool cannot handle this exe, it will complain about "invalid switches" when trying to run the exe to unpack it and error out.

the asset tag wiper tool was from 2005 for a poweredge SC430 and still works on machines from 2012, kinda cool :)

also tried to extract BIOS manually with Universal BIOS Backup ToolKit 2.0, that results in 10MB file with what looks lotsa padding and perhaps 2 or 3 times the same portions of the BIOS (probably versions with and without SLIC depending on mode) but when I try to SLIC it ("module" mode), Phoenixtool 2.05 errors out with error 6 (arithmetic overflow) when trying to SLIC it.
IT worked in dynamic mode but not sure if that bricks the BIOS or not if I ever can flash it back!?
It does detect at initial digest there is a 2.1 marker with pubkey. Maybe there is a way to swap out locations of modules in the "structure" part ?

I also believe the asset tag allows to reset the machine, but seemingly Dell changed it for this model, as it does not work reset with asset tag PASS:12/31 nor PASS:12/34 nor PASS:1234 nor PASS:12/32 etc
So maybe we have to wait for a Chinese dude working for Dell revealing what the reset asset tag is this time...

I'm trying to replace the Intel Storage Option ROM in a Dell E6400 BIOS, version A32, using Phoenix Tool 2.05. I checked "Allow user modification of modules", "Always alllow user modification of modules", "Allow user to modify other modules", and "No SLIC". I hit "Go" and replace the module when the message says to, but upon extracting the new HDR file the original module is present instead of the newer one I swapped in. I also get an "HDR checksum not correct" error. I tried BIOS A31, A30, A29 with the same results. Anybody have any idea why I'm having these issues?
