Just to update on the MSI 990FXA-GD80 Beta bios and MSI's advice that it's not possible to downgrade back to the previous stable BIOS. I've been told "the issue is that the win 8 bios's are so different from previous versions that a full erase is necessary to flash back to the previous version. (Similar to the ME versions with Intel) Since FPT doesn't work with AMD they are trying to find another method to do this easily." to which I replied "I presume that afudos is unable to fully erase the BIOS then? I've not heard of FPT before but I'm guessing from what you've said that it's a tool for Intel that can fully erase the BIOS? Still sound strange as I'd think if afudos could write to the areas used by the beta BIOS, it could rewrite them with whatever is required by the stable BIOS. The only thing I can think of is that once flashed and booted, the beta BIOS then writes to other areas that were referenced by the stable BIOS and for whatever reason the stable BIOS is unable to write the data in those areas back to how it needs it (or it needs to read from those areas before it's up and running and able to do any such writing)." in reply to which I got "I would think that AFUDx would work with the proper syntax, but since MSI is saying don't do this I must assume there is a good reason. (Or let someone with an SPI programmer handy experiment and see how it goes)" So I'm still not really any the wiser why MSI are saying it's not possible but that's still the current advice.
The latest PhoenixTool already removes the extra 304 bytes (i.e. ImagDs) from the HDR file. It's just that the bios.gz cannot be re-integrated into the D630_A18.exe successfully. Just make sure you flash from real DOS: - Copy D630_A17.EXE and bios.gz to DOS-bootable USB stick - Boot to DOS on USB stick - D630_A17 -readgzfile OR Use the HDR recovery method: - Rename "D630_A18_SLIC.HDR" -> "D630SLC.HDR" - Copy "D630SLC.HDR" to root of the USB stick (FAT16 or FAT32 format) - Perform the HDR recovery method
It appears that some of the latest BIOS from ASUS have changed format. Attempts to flash the BIOS using the normal methods result in a security verification failure. For now we can mod them (I am using SLIP 2.2) and make the updates using the USB BIOS flashback button but I am sure that time is running out for that approach. Has anyone found the way to circumvent this problem?
The modded BIOS files from Serg008 has been posted in previous reply. You can download it and open with MMTool 4.xx for comprision with the original BIOS file from ASUS. You will find 2 mouldes added into the Serg008's BIOS file. Simply extract it and add into the new BIOS file you want to mod. Remember place it into the same position.
I believe that the BIOS you are modding is the P8Z77-V, while mine is a P9X79 Deluxe. Are these 2 modules interchangeable?
Ok.. new idea!! After modding with new modules method, can you try to mod the modded bios again using Dynamic method??
