When I fully update my Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 iso's (With NTlite, my preferred tool) it seems that the updates add some interesting changes: -With Windows 8, whenever I change the desktop background, it turns fully black. -With both Windows 8.0 and Windows 8.1, when I slipstream updates and I try to install other updates after installing the updated install image, the system throws a bsod when rebooting. I'm not sure if i missed anything or if I'm the only one who has the issue, but if anyone has the same issues as me and there is a fix out there, please share it with me because this stuff is driving me nuts!
I've included all updates for both Windows 8 and 8.1 home and pro, including the latest rollup updates from server 2012 (or embedded 8 for x86)
You can only update the normal way up to June 2025. Beginning with July 2025, MS restricted the LCUs to Server 2012 /2012 R2 only. There is actually a method involving patched updates, but it's for more advanced users. https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/bypass-esu-blue.86548/page-32#post-1902412
Patching the LCU isn't meant to guarantee you 100% reliability... It's meant to make the server LCU "work" on client images.
I should probably mention that the update issue on Windows 8.1 also exists without the Server or Embedded updates integrated onto the iso.
So I fixed the performance issues with Windows 8.0 by installing KB2818604 and KB3064209, and also found out that the bsod issue after installing updates on a fresh install from a updated iso also occurs on Windows 8.0 as well.
Have you tried getting support about this in the NTLite forum as well ? Since it could be related to NTLite itself And what happens if you perform the following : Code: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth sfc /scannow
Sadly, I've tried installing the updates from a clean install of Windows 8.0 without updates, but the black desktop background issue is still there, so I don't think it's NTLite's fault.
This guy is trolling, trying to help him is useless 1) Claims he has installed "all" the updates. In a later post, he mentions that installing KB2818604 and KB3064209 solved some problems. How is that supposed to makes any sense since he already claimed he installed all updates? 2) ESU Updates are not compatible with NTLite to begin with. Doesn't even mention which version of NTLite he is using. Could be using a totally outdated version. 3) Doesn't want to ask for help on the NTLite forum. Removed components ? Unattended installation ? Absolutely no mention on what presets or settings he used in NTLite. 4) Overall incomplete information on what and how he did things and vague/dodgy responses, or no response at all , to questions and advice.
Have you gone to forum.rg-adguard? It would be very easy for you because there is the latest updated ISO there. However, it is recommended to use Windows Server 2012/R2 for better to the latest updates.
I know of those, but sadly I need VIP access to download them. And I'm not the type to buy that just for an updated ISO. I can already download the 32-bit version of 8.1 on archive.org though (which uses embedded updates, and embedded 8.1 was supported until july 2023). Oddly enough nobody uploaded the 8.0 version yet. (or every language for 8.1)
Sadly, any kind of help or advice that is given will be negated or even ignored. See my previous post on this matter : https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...ates-for-both-8-0-and-8-1.90101/#post-1906734 This thread should be locked IMHO , trying to help him is useless.
It's ok, I fixed all my issues by using the sysprep method. Guess that'll be my preferred method of making fully up to date Windows 8.x installs.
