Daz says that my status is "Unactivated (Untouched)". Does that mean that it didn't find itself in there or is that referring to my Window's Genuine-ness state? The Uninstall button is enabled, however. But so is the Install button. (I'm just being cautious in an attempt to make sure that I don't end up in an unbootable situation.)
Just press the Uninstall button, if there is no loader nothing will happen. It refers to windows is not activated.
Thanks, so I ran it and it says that the bootloader, certificate, and key were uninstalled. Sounds promising. Now do I need to manually reinstall the dell certificate and key before I reboot? Or after?
no need to reinstall just either manually add certificate and key or use advanced settings in daz loader to install them.
Making progress, but still not there yet. I must have had a loader because SLIC ToolKit now says that I'm "DELL M09". I reinstalled the Dell certificate and the Dell OEM key. Everything now comes up green in SLIC ToolKit, but microsoft.com/Genuine still doesn't like me. Just to make sure that I'm doing that part right, here what I get there: * I click on the "Download" button. It downloads something. * Then I get a popup that says "Optional update delivery is not working" in the title and "You may be a victim..." in the text. My only option on that is "Close." * Also there is a little progress bar open with the title "Windows Activation Technologies" and "This update is already installed..." in the text. Also, I should note that I have a yellow bar in IE that says "This website wants to run the following add-on: 'Windows Activation Technologies..." I have not permitted that, but perhaps I need to? Any ideas? I've read about "rearming" but I'm still not sure exactly what that does or how it is likely to screw things up.
if you trying to activate and it want to load something and your not permitting it that will create problems go back and let it do what it needs to with out you limiting it go back and click allow and see what happens
You are 1000% right. It needed that ActiveX control to work! Duh! BillG likes me again and world is rejoicing. Thanks again to everyone who contributed to my education here. I know a ton more than when I started and perhaps this thread will help others who find it via Google.
Good catch MasterDisaster. I was assuming he meant a Dell OEM Disk from Dell. I didn't even think to have him check for a loader. @ SammyDell, Let M$ install that add-on and it should let you re-validate.
I can access my Grub Loader screen on My MacBook by holding down R duri ng the Boot, have you tried that to see if you cann access a Grub Menu?
I didn't see that I could try that until after I had done the loader uninstall. I assume that whatever I had before would now be gone thanks to the uninstall, right? So all this means that what I thought was a real Dell OEM DVD actually had some loader on it. In case I need it for the future, can someone point me at a real Dell OEM ISO? Also, what is the best plans for OS updates? If I let it download them but not install them, I assume that I can pick through the ones that I want and delete any that could be problematic. How is the best way to determine if one could cause problems? Just search here and if no one is screaming, install everything?
How about posting some pictures of the DVD? might also be something useful. Also as far as possible, when it comes to updating your OS, its something of an art. you need to do several google searches for each of the individual KB's and once convinced of the update , install it.
