Kudos to you @JRandomHacker , using your guide I was able to unlock a lot of hidden menus on my locked HP BIOS (AMI 7.12 Rev A, Motherboard Pegatron 2AB5 IPISB-CH2), and was able to make compatible and install a GTX 1060, in replacement of a previous GTX 760. The key is to switch the hidden setting "PCI ROM Priority" to Legacy ROM, and the card becomes compatible! (I suspect the UEFI oprom of the card doesn't like the UEFI part of my BIOS..) I dumped the flash using a CH341A programmer, to have a good backup with all my serials. I used this one with the tools. I followed everything, except that for my BIOS I needed to extract the body of the "freeform" section and NOT the compressed section, to give to IRFExtractor, otherwise it won't recognise the format. Otherwise, all went smooth, and I was able to put 010101010101 to unlock all the menus, to finally flash it back using my hardware programmer!
Thanks for your guide! I can confirm successfully unlocking the advanced menu on a Dell Inspiron 660 and also a Dell Inspiron 3847 (both AMI Aptio EFI BIOSes) using your method.
I was also able to use this guide to unlock the hidden menus on my HP Pavilion PC (HP Pavilion p6-2171a) with AMI Aptio EFI BIOS (AMI 8.20 dated Jan. 2015) for Motherboard Foxconn 2ADA Joshua H61. Edit: Patched SAFUWIN tool was needed to flash this BIOS. Posted here: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...ing-ami-aptio-ami-7-and-8.81742/#post-1597988
I read the whole thread as I have same issue as @hijam (bios AMi 7.12 on Pentagron chicago motherboard). I'm exactly in same situation: I have fairly old PC HP h8-1111sc for which I wanted to upgrade GPU with Nvidia 1050ti and got stuck on bios post screen. After many trial, I'm not able to extract the .rom with the AMI utility tool as per describe in the tutorial and go forward as per instructed. I get all the time "Error 46" with Afuwin. I'm really out of my wits. Can Someone help please.
Try using patched SAFUWIN tool here: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...ing-ami-aptio-ami-7-and-8.81742/#post-1597988
Code: Flash new BIOS ROM named "BIOS.ROM": safuwinp.exe BIOS.ROM /P /B /N /K /R Backup old BIOS ROM as "BACKUP.ROM": safuwinp.exe BACKUP.ROM /O
The UEFI Tool link is dead, and there's a bunch of different versions flying around. Which one should I go for, for an ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming BIOS from 2018? It's an AMI BIOS.
UPDATE TO MY PREVIOUS COMMENT (that is right above!) I HAVE NOW BEEN ABLE TO MOD MY BIOS!!! I am updating this because it might help someone down the line, and I'll try to be as descriptive as possible: I searched for the hex Code: 01 00 00 01 since my two Main's from the IFR had the same Address and I could find a single result. The problem was that I was modifying AFTER those and then the Menus wouldn't appear on my BIOS at all. What I did was change the 6 HEX's BEFORE the ones I had already enabled on my BIOS, I don't understand why exactly it worked since all those values didn't align at all either from left-to-right/right-to-left to what I actually had in my IFR BUT that was what did the trick for me and now I have all the Hidden menus I could see from the IFR extraction. I still haven't found the CFG Lock from the main post, the location specified on my BIOS is "there" but slightly different. Instead of : Advanced/CPU Configuration/CFG lock I have: Advanced/CPU PM Configuration/CFG PPT Lock and it is already disabled by default. Enabling or keeping it disabled didn't do the trick for me on my hackintosh but I was finally able to disable VT-d and overclock my RM which is already a nice step forward. Stay safe everyone!
Hey @tempmail1231, thank you very much for your post because im working at the "Inspiron 660 Vostro 270 BIOS A13.exe" image. I tried everything but if i flash the file nothing happens no hidden menu nothing. Could you please send me your modded bios file? Best wishes
