BBC used to overwrite the older tapes, so many older British series are hard or even impossible to find (Say the original Dr Who is mostly gone).

Failing with Out of the Unknown, I’ve discovered another old BBC series that seems to be along similar lines and from about the same period: Journey to the Unknown (1968-9) Rated 8.1/10 17 episodes, digitally enhanced in color http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062574/ Episodes can be found for downloading and some are also available on YouTube.

Then how come I have 201GB in 732 files ( average 350 MB per episode ) in 167 folders ( *one per title ) of just the original series archived? * Example, the first title, "An unearthly Child" consists of 4 episodes. Those 4 episodes are labeled: An Unearthly Child The Cave of Skulls The Forest of Fear The Firemaker I got it! It MUST be Magic.

A while ago, I thought I’d give the original Dr Who series a try. It didn’t really attract me as it seemed crude and childish by today’s standards, and when I stumbled on missing episodes, it was a good time to quit. The reconstructed ones I found were just a sequence of pictures, no motion. The modern 2005 series is much better, certainly miles better as regards video quality, but I find the plots not really convincing due to inconsistencies.
I started watching the new lot with Christopher Ecclescake onwards. He was good. Tennant ok, Smith- meh. Some good ones, some a load of shoemakers. Only ones im interested in is with daleks.
I began when PBS was airing Dr. Who with Jon Pertwee back in the early 70's. What you say is true by today's standards, but Dr. Who had a kind of "campyness" which was actually enjoyable for me. My favorite doctor was Tom Baker... And of course his lovely heathen assistant Louise Jameson aka Leela Spoiler And we can't forget K-9. lol
That was the only doctor I knew before the internet age. But I liked a lot also Shapphire and Steel that was meant as a competing series. Speaking about old british series UFO S.H.A.D.O. Is still my favorite. The following Italian/British Space 1999 was nice as well, too bad the second series was mostly ruined by the new US based production.
Sapphire and Steel - David McCallum and Joanna Lumley, got a bit scary at times but i was a kid then. Cant remember it much now. UFO and Space 1999 both by Gerry Anderson and very good. Space 1999 was always made in england, but had more US control in series 2 due to falling viewer numbers in the US on S1.
Yepp, always filmed in England but the first series was a 50/50 coproduction between the British ITC and the Italian RAI. The second one was formally produced by ITC alone, but practically they got $$$ and directions from the other side of the pond. Speaking about another unforgettable series The Prisoner was incredibly intriguing and modern for the time it was released. That was scaring for T-S when he was a kid
The mention of Joanna Lumley reminds me of The New Avengers with high-kicking Purdey & Patrick MacNee as John Steed. Also a good series. I've gathered some episodes lined up for watching. And a nostalgic pic for you.
