Will this fail WGA, er, WAT online checks? So no Microsoft Download Center use, now that Microsoft blacklisting key? (Will still activate of course, but more concerned about showing as genuine so Download Center and Microsoft Security Essentials etc. which checks for genuine can be used unmodified.)

Is there replacement LegitCheckControl.dll or equivalent?

Will this trigger Reduced Functionality Mode like Vista when nongenuine detected?

    this is a non-issue...

just use a newly leaked key once it comes out... which should be soon anyway.

The key is independent of the lo*der. If a WGA update flags the key as non-genuine, it won't matter if you modded your BIOS or just used the lo*der.

SLP keys don't really activate Windows the same way Retail keys do. They just tell the activation mechanism to compare the cert to the SLIC table. This is partly why SLP keys are brand-independent. The real license lies in the cert-SLIC combo.

You'll still be able to activate Windows 7 if they blacklist the key, you just won't be able to download genuine updates. The fact that blacklisting will only have a partial effect than what blacklisting a Retail or Volume key would have is what makes me think that Microsoft won't really do anything with the key except give Lenovo a new one. I think they may very well just abandon this key but leave it active.

Not like we have anything to worry about. I'm sure more keys will leak in September, and by that time it'll be too late to issue new ones.

As of today, if you go to the WGA site, ( just tweeking the nipples of fate! ) you just get a message saying that this version of windows is not yet supported.

I've no doubt that in due course when it IS supported, you'll be marked as 'not genuine' should you visit WGA site.

I don't think WGA 'not genuine' by itself triggers Reduced Functionality Mode. You just get annoying nags etc. I think RFM only happens if the machine remains ( or becomes ) un-activated beyond the grace period.

MS could, of course, push out an update which goes further than a simple WGA 'not genuine', and could choose to de-activate these machines thus triggering RFM.

    Time will tell.

MS won´t use this key...cause nobody will be happy to buy windows 7 with the most popular key in the web.

That´s all, blacklisting is just for that.

    If not lenovo

    Hi all,

From what I understand microsoft may/will block the key on NON lenovo machines, so I if the modded BIOS uses a Lenovo SLIC (provided you have a matching certificate) then it wont be blocked :)

unless they have other means to detect your machine maker

Not a big differance, if at all -
The Dynamic Method is the one the OEM's use

If I get it right , people using Orb&Hazar lo*der will need to uninstall it and wait for a new release, they cant just change there Key to this one as this SLP is for dell and the loarder is baser on Lenovo.

    Correct ?

Well my system used the leaked Lenovo OEM key for Ultimate. I also got SLIC 2.1 from HP, and as MS has blacklisted the key, my system was deactivated:mad:. Now i have 24 days left. Maybe I just have to rearm Windows and wait for the real OEM key from HP? Has anyone got this problem? Did I do smth wrong?

My system didn't get deactivated and I have the bios modded with the same HP SLIC 2.1. Probably you ran: slmgr -ato. You shouldn't have done that.

You should disable automatic updates in windows update and select "check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them". MS is notorious for its stealth updates.

It doesn't matter from which OEM you obtain the key you use as they are not tied to the cert.

Perhaps you overlooked installing the cert.

Are you sure MS has blacklisted the key? My computer is still activated.

Now this is quite annoying. I did EXACTLY the steps posted on this forum to activate Win 7, and it actually worked. Only 2 days ago I suddenly got deactivated. Coincidentally it was on the very same day MS announced that the key had been blacklisted. Now I tried to repeat the steps I'd done before to re-activate Windows but nothing happened, still 24 days left. I'm pretty sure my BIOS got SLIC 2.1 since I flashed it with the official release on HP website (ver F2A for dv7t series) and it says on the setup window "ENHANCEMENTS:
    1. Supports Windows Vista SP2 OS
    2. Supports Win7 for Early Adopters.
    3. Supports Boston power battery cells."

Yes I can still use Windows Update, but maybe it screwed up my system with some "hidden" updates to prevent the key. One more question: Which one is the latest cert file for HP-Compaq, or they're the same? I downloaded 2 cert files from this forum, one's called "HPQOEMSLIC-MPC.XRM-MS" which is integrated in WoW7. The other one's called "COMPAQ-HP.XRM-MS" found in the thread "Win 7 & Server 08 R2 SLIC 2.1 Bin Collection"

Definitely has not been deactivated because of an update. Use Hazar's loader....
