    Installed the key as provided in Win7 Ultimate Retail in VMWare 6.5.2, with Dell SLIC 2.1 mod. Windows 7 was fully activated.

    This is a very nice find if it sticks.

    It doen't matter OEM or Retail, the key work for both, so you have done something wrong.

    If you mod bios properly, it is quite safe. You may want to check andyp's Award & AMI bios tool for performing SLIC modification. I used his tool to mod my MSI & ASUS board bios, and activated VISTA and Windows 7. Good Luck.

    Ok, so as a noob when it comes to the slic method, is it safe to try or should I wait for a retail key? Here are my MB specs:

    Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. M2A-VM 1.XX
    Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
    BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD ASUS M2A-VM ACPI BIOS Revision 1301 09/11/2007

    Most likely your bios doesn't have SLIC 2.1 table.

    bobov, thanks for the tip but I'm completely unfamiliar with bios flashing and wouldn't know how to restore it if things go wrong. I think I'll wait for the msdn release and try a retail key!:eek:

    Will this work with ASUS SLIC? i havent seen slic 2.1 for ASUS just only 2.0?

    I'm confused. If I install the key BEFORE the cert, all is well. If I install the cert before the key, the key is rejected (I assumed, apparently incorrectly, that the cert would want to go in first). Can anyone explain this behavior? Also, how does one remove a cert (I don't see a slmgr option for removing a cert).

    in my bois i dont see that option maybe i should reboot and look around that may be my problem
