My daughters HP dv5 1008CA stopped working and has the Caps/Num Lock lights flash two times indicating a corrupt BIOS. I tried all the usual recommended fixes to no avail and was suggested the system board needed replacing I was able to find one and thought by replacing it a functional BIOS would be already installed. After I installed the new board and booted up I received a CMOS error and tried both option presented however noting happened. I restarted and received a BootMGR error. I was able to get into system and checked the memory and all was well, saw that the BIOS was F31 however I was not able to gain access to the BIOS setup. Came across this site and thought I had found a solution however after trying the procedures presented I still have a dead laptop. I downloaded the BIOS from HP site and changed the names of the two .FD files as suggested and loaded these onto a blank USB. Tried starting as suggested with all the various key combinations however I still have a blank screen. When I started using the Windows and B keys the unit did beep twice and the Caps/Num lock lights flash on for 12 seconds and then off for 12 seconds and does this for some time then flashes as it did previously. I tried various USB ports as well. I might be missing a step or something that is not allowing the update to start. Does anyone that has experienced doing this with a HP dv5 know what I am missing in my procedure? The two files I am using and renamed are the 30F2 and 3622 adding .BIN;.FD;.ROM; HW.FD etc. What confuses me a little is the Croft 1.0 and the 3600 since no files related to these were in the BIOS download. Any assistance provided is greatly appreciated. Failing this I suppose I will have two dead system boards and will have to purchase another laptop. Regards.
Same issue here, with the DV5z-1000. None of the filenames worked, including 3602/3603. I get the two beeps only when holding down WIN + B at boot, but nothing further happens except for the 2-blinks.
Some new developments! I removed the cheap looking foam square that was between the video chip and the heat sink/fan and replaced with a small piece of copper with Artic Silver Ceramique 2 on both sides. Appears to fit pretty good. Partially assembled with one stick of RAM; the keyboard and the power buttone piece and fired her up. It came on and I was able to get into the BIOS and change boot order as well as run some tests. Right in the middle of one test it just went blank and the 2 LEDs started flashing again. The screen is not completely black as you can see some lightness to it. I installed the hard drive and placed it on a chill mat with 2 fans in it and started again. This time I was able to get into Windows and wanted to back-up my daughters files only the screen went balnk again. I don't think this is a BIOS issue but perhaps a heating issue.
Acer Aspire 4750G I've been reading this thread for a couple of days trying to revive my Acer Aspire 4750G. 2 users already posted same issue as me but until now none of us were able to help. I can see usb reading activity during my recovery process but after a few led blinks, nothing happened. I'm thinking maybe the I didn't get the right recovery name. I used Andy's tool but I can't obtain any hint for the name. Anyway here's the details of my laptop, Mnufacturer: Acer Model: Aspire 4750G Model No: MS2316 (found under the laptop) BIOS files: JE40213.ROM and JE40213.WPH (found on the latest BIOS files from here: hxxp://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/BIOS/BIOS/BIOS_Acer_2.13_A_A.zip?acerid=634572052390752224&Step1=NOTEBOOK&Step2=ASPIRE&Step3=ASPIRE%204750G&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_7 I hope someone could help me. Thanks
Hi , valic resolved problem with his HP elitebook 8540p. But I have one question on you, where did he get SMC.BIN file? I tried to find something on google, but nothing. I have HP 6730b. I downloaded oldiest bios from hp.com ,then renamed Rom.bin and efibios.sig according to my number of bios. Then I put files like this on USB Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\68PDD.BIN Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\68PDD.SIG but without file SMC.BIN Then I tried to start with Windows key + B and it started to read USB, but then nothing. ...please help thanks
eMachines E730G I bricked my eMachines E730G by trying to use the Windows flash utility. It errored out with "IHISI: flash write error in SMI!", and froze the machine. Subsequent boots just made the fan spin up for a few seconds, then nothing (powerlight on, that's it). I first tried with: 1. Putting the NEW70123.fd file as NEW70X64.fd on a USB 4GB stick I had lying around. I used the tool linked in the first post to find out what the name of the file on the USB stick should be. 2. Pulling out the battery and power cable. 3. Holding FN-Esc while putting the power cable back. 4. While still holding FN-Esc, pushing the power button. 5. Released FN-Esc after a few seconds. Now I could see that it was reading off of the USB stick. The fan was spinning like crazy for the full 20 minutes I left it, waiting for some progress. It didn't seem to work though. The machine didn't reboot or shut down by itself after the stipulated 2-5 minutes. It just kept going. HOWEVER! I then tried to put the file on a 2GB micro-sd card that I put in a tiny USB card reader. Formatted it as FAT32 first. Now it took about 90 seconds, and the machine beeped, and then rebooted into Windows without problems. Success!
Acer Aspire 5334 fixed at last! Just registered here to say thanks I have been trying for 3 days to get my nephew's Acer aspire 5334 working again. After numerous attempts at trying different combinations of different BIOS files on different media (3 different memory sticks, burning CD's, and buying a USB floppy drive from Ebay), by reading this thread I finally managed to bring it back from the dead. The problem was that, although I knew the right proceedure, I couldn't work out what the file should be renamed to. Using andyp's Phoenix Tool 1.93 to read the latest BIOS file from Acer's website, I now know that it's PAWF5x64.fd. I put this on a memory stick & it worked. Just saved my nephew from having to fork out a few hundred pounds for a new laptop. He had previously taken it into a computer repair shop, who told him that it needed a new mother board! Thanks again.
I have HP dv6-3030ew and I bricked my BIOS, I have been trying for about 2 days to manage to recovery it but without success I have USB Stick 2GB formatted as FAT32, and I putted in there: 0144A.bin, 144A.bin, and other possibilities in root of USB, and copy of them in HEWLETT-PACKARD/BIOS/CURRENT (/RECOVERY, /BACKUP) and it get into a loop, first one led blink for 10-15 seconds, and later fast blinking for 3 seconds... Also tried burning this files on CD and it haven't worked. ( CD starts, LED have blinked some times, and then it get in loop, and CD and HDD led's are blinking simulestly in beetween 2 seconds... I'm working on an Acer Aspire 7720 with InsydeH2O EFI, that asks for a bios password when you try to boot it. After trying password (X3) unsuccessfully, it locks up. For some reason, it doesn't display an error hash code like it should. The unit operated just fine until the owner flashed/updated the bios, ... then it started asking for the password (without ever having one set up). Anyone have any suggestion on accessing the bios, or booting the OS? Bios is set so the CD/DVD is not set up to boot from. Thanks,
Help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! anybody can help me to fix my acer 4535 blank just green lamp on then cant run to bios n windows
I have an HP EliteBook 2530p with a corrupt BIOS. I was trying to update the AMT firmware, but it failed at some point in the process. In my attempts at fixing the AMT firmware I flashed an older BIOS revision. From that point on it has never booted. The only procedure I've tried that seems to do anything is putting a ROM and SIG file on a FAT32 flash drive in the 'Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current' folder. The official BIOS recovery hotkey is holding down the four arrow keys, which seems to work the same as Win + B. The caps lock light flashes steadily and after a short while there is steady activity on the flash drive as if it's reading the BIOS files. About a minute later the laptop shuts down and powers back up a couple times, but nothing ever appears on the screen. Eventually it just goes into an endless cycle of trying to read the CD drive and then restarting. At one point I had a blinking cursor on an external monitor, but I don't recall what I did to get that. I've tried every BIOS version available on HP's website, as well as the backup of the BIOS on there when I got it. Can anyone provide some insight as to what I need to do to get this working again? Even if it does boot again, I fear the AMT firmware is still screwed. I may end up just replacing the motherboard.
