    Corrupt BIOS

    Tried to flash with many different file names, I thaught that I had it when I named the file 363F.bin from 363FF03.fd and I also tried the other file from the other newer BIOS.

    I ran Andy's Tools and it say that the recover file was named F.BIN. Tried that too.

    With the file named as 363F.BIN it acts like its recovering, but it reads the drive, beeps, reads, beeps, and after about 1 min it just stops trying and both lights just flash again.

    platfom:

    [Platform_Check]
    flag=2
    PlatformName=363F
    PlatformName2=3652
    PlatformName3=

    P.S. I alsy tried 3652.BIN as the file name and it does the same that the 363F.BIN file does.

    Any Ideas?

    Bricked Insyde BIOS (Compal NBLB2)

    Today i tried to update my BIOS in my NBLB2 laptop and everything seemed to go fine, but now i get no image on the screen(No POST).

    This is what i've tried - can you please give me some help regarding this crisis recovery mode as i cant seem to figure out what i am doing wrong exactly.

    In cronologic order.

    1. Downloaded FreeDOS and the modded BIOS and put on a flash drive.
    2. BIOS updated successfully according to the flas**t.exe program.
    3. Restarted computer - blank screen appeared computer refused to start up.
    4. Proceeded to the recovery steps.

    4.a. Changed the name of the bios FD file(from your homepage) from NBLBXF10.fd to NBLBXX64.fd
    4.b Put it on a FAT formatted drive.
    4.c Plugged battery and AC cabel off and putted the USB in the laptop.
    4.d Holded Fn+B(It is the right combo) and the laptop started, lights only in the power button and not in the other LED's as it should according to the service manual.
    4.e Flash drive seems to get readed and the laptop stands for a ½ min or so - then turns off and doesnt turn on again.
    4.f Waited abit and nothing happens - thought this was a success.

    5. Tried to boot the laptop normally but no image on the screen. The computer stays on for a ½ min then turns off.
    6. Tried the recovery steps all over, with bios from compals official site.
    7. Computer turns on (into the recovery mode where only power LED is on and no other) but turns of almost instantly again (about 2-5 sec). (If recovery step not provided still no image but computer stays on for a ½ min)

    Thought it was perhaps the format of the USB pen or the name of the file or the extension. So i've tried these things aswell afterwards:
    - Changing the file name to NBLB, BIOS, etc.
    - Changing the file extension to FD, fd, ROM, rom, BIN, bin etc.
    - Changing the size of the USB pen partition and the partition type(FAT, FAT16, FAT32)

    - Burning the files onto a DVD and tried that.

    Seems like it wont even read the USB anymore but i am really not sure here :S The PC just instantly turns off when booting in recovery mode.

    Battery is taken out, and I am doing the procedure you're describing(holding Fn+B while plugging in the power).

    Alright tried adding the flas**t.exe to the root -> same error (turns of after 5 secs of full power on the fans and only light in the power LED)

    Tried to take first one, then the other, then both ram sticks out of it, still the same..

    Thanks for the quick response tho and any other suggestions are welcome :)

    Plug-in the USB floppy drive with crisis floppy diskette inserted.
    Hold down Fn + B keys.
    Plug-in AC adapter and make sure it is powered.
    Power on the system from off state (i.e. cold boot) while holding down <Fn+B> key.
    After POST, release <Fn+B> key. The system should boot from floppy and perform
    crisis recovery action.

    Yea I have thought that aswell. But the thing is tho, I think I have bricked the recovery part of my bios actually - because the first time I did the recovery try, it behaved completely different from how it does every time now. Whats more is that there has never been a single of the BIOS's for the NBLB2 that can fit on a single floppy disk - so it shouldn't be nessesary (shouldn't even be a possibility).

    I am also in contact with Compal Support who sended me another BIOS recovery .fd file, which didn't work either - at the moment I am awaiting their answer, but as I wrote, I am afraid I have bricked the BIOS beyond recovery :/

    *Edit*
    What I am trying to find out now is if theres a way to force an Insyde BIOS into boot block to see if that will make it try to recover again - but can't really find anything about it on the internet.
    Futhermore i read somewhere that something with an EFI partition could do the trick but this is also hard to find any about - but I haven't given up yet :)

    Hello
    Iam in trouble.
    I have a Gateway notebook nv79
    I flashed the bios with the updated biosfile from the gateway sight.
    Now when I power up I just get a black screen.
    I did like they said and flashed from a dos boot.
    can any one help me.
    What keys do I press to try to recover the bios.
    thanksfor any answers.

    fixed the problem using the following post.

    So, rename your file, in this example, from 361B27.FD to 361B.fd and 361B.bin and 3651b.rom

    The second bios file,for example maybe 3610F89.FD, but needs to be renamed 3610.fd and 3610.rom and 3610.bin.

    This is an example if you have 2 or more .FD files with which to work.

    Now, place all the renamed insyde bios files on a usb stick and follow these instructions

    This is posted on Yen's sight - I sent this information to him last night

    (1.) REMOVE CD or DVD if possible (you may have to press the power button the quickly press the CD EJECT button)

    (2.) REMOVE ALL USB DEVICES, NETWORK CABLES, (anything hooked to the laptop)

    (3.) PRESS AND HOLD the POWER BUTTON DOWN FOR 5 secs to shutdown the laptop

    (4.) REMOVE BATTERY

    (5.) REMOVE AC CORD

    (6.) PUT the USB THUMB DRIVE IN USB SLOT ON RIGHT SIDE OF LAPTOP (the one i used anyway)

    (7.) PRESS AND HOLD the POWER BUTTON down for 10 secs... release

    (8.) while holding FN + ESC plug in AC POWER CABLE, (KEEP HOLDING FN+ESC the whole time)

    (9.) NOW PRESS POWER BUTTON & HOLD IT DOWN... THE FAN SHOULD SPIN UP (keep holding FN+ESC) ONCE FAN SPINS UP, RELEASE POWER BUTTON

    (10.) eventually the fan will shut off.... (seemed like 30 seconds,, but could have been 5 minutes... i was freaking out)

    when fan shuts off i unplugged my AC CORD... REMOVED THE USB DRIVE,,,, and then plugged the AC power back in,,,

    Hi there,

    Somehow I managed to brick an Acer Travelmate 290 (T35) during BIOS update. Downloaded the latest BIOS from Acer Europe. Started up and it asked me if I really wanted to update. Clicked yes, and it started the erase and write. Then suddenly heard a beep and switched off. Ever since it starts up, but slowly bleeps, and the HDD and DVD LEDs are on continuously. When I try the Crisis Disk method, nothing significant happens. Tried with Fn+Esc, Fn+B, Win Key+B, tried many file names and extensions (CL50, ICL50, .fd, .FD, .WPH, .ROM etc). Tried Andy's Tool to dump it, but always says it is not an Insyde BIOS. But it is... Strangely it starts to read my USB floppy, even without pressing any combinations. When it reads the disk, it bleeps quickly...and endlessly. Any more idea what I could do? RAMs were tested the same day, no error. Tried with one RAM as well. Went through most of this Thread (and others as well). Spent over 4 hours to figure out what could be the right name, but nothing.

    That's my platform.ini:

    Hello,

    I have a problem with my compaq cq61-310sd
    It has the 2 led code, according to the compaq site it must be a corrupt bios.

    I have already tried to download the bios F03 and F13 and F15
    Renamed the files to 363F.BIN and 3652.BIN

    When i boot up the laptop with Windows + B hold down, i can see that the laptop is reading my usb disk, then it beeps 4 times.
    After that it will beep every 6 seconds, but after one minute it stops beeping and reading from usb.
    Also the laptop never shuts off or restarts.

    I let it run for 10 minutes and then i power it down.
    When i boot it up again, the laptop keeps flashing the 2 led code.

    If there anybody can help i will appreciate that!
    sorry for my bad english,

    the correct combination should be FN+F for this model. it works for me now. Thank you very much!!!!!!!

    I have ACER 5520 and it crashed while updating BIOS. No matter what I do: I get no LEDs, nothing. It doesn't respond to any key presses whats so ever. The laptop was great until ACERS OWN software failed while updating (unmodified). The only USB thumb drive I have is 8GB. Could this be my problem?

    The laptop acts as if it has no power and acts like it is 100% dead. NO lights, NOTHING.

    I have Compal PBL21 (BL212) (PBL20 has the same BIOS).
    Downloaded BIOS from there :
    download.bto.eu/Notebooks%20%28Drivers%29/15C11%20-%2015C36%20%20%28PBL20%20-%20PBL21%29/bios/
    And tried flash from W7-64. This bastard just said me about somewhat writing error. So DON'T update your BIOS from windows! Use better dos from conventional boot usb-flash.
    To recover my bios I used Andy's tool first, so I have prepeared two files: PBL00.bin and PBL00.ROM . On the formatted usb flash drive (fat32) I copied these (.bin first - maybe it is important (?)). No fdd needed!
    Further order of my actions is like described above. Key combination in my case is Fn + b. After pwr-on pressing continue holding fn+b ~15 sec ( pc have to beep once first after pwr-on). Wait about 3 minutes and laptop begins beeping (many times). After that nb turns off automatically.
    I hope this helps somebody like MDL helped me.
    Thanks !!

    Having the blank screen, two flashing lights issue with my HP dv6-2164ca.

    PlatformName=3635
    PlatformName2=3636
    PlatformName3=3637
    PlatformName4=3638
    PlatformName5=3639
    PlatformName6=363A
    PlatformName7=
    PlatformName8=
    PlatformName9=

    from the dv6 series (2164ca), sp47531.exe F.13

    made copies of all 5-9 and A: 363*.BIN, 363*.FD, 363*.ROM, 363*HW.BIN, 363*HW.FD, 363*HW.ROM (36 files total)

    put them in the root folder of a FAT32 4GB USB Flash

    Did all the steps mentioned, and all was going well. The laptop beeped every second for about 10 seconds, then slowed to 1 beep about every 5 seconds for about 45 sec. Then it never turned off (like it should), it just went back to the initial error, doing 2 flashes.

    Under my battery says Rev: 3637 - 210, so I tried just the 3637 variations, but it only beeped a couple times and turned off.

    Anyone had success with dv6? Or see anything I'm doing wrong? Or do I just keep trying the same thing?

    Another guy here who can't seem to get this to work.

    Laptop Info:
    HP DV7 1170US laptop:
    HP Bios link is at hxxp://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/previousVersions?softwareitem=ob-91571-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&product=3795430&sw_lang=

    What I was doing:
    The BIOS i was trying to flash with is hxxp://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/7033-Insyde-bios-mod-requests?p=151527&viewfull=1#post151527. The update seemed to go okay, laptop shut down, and just like so many others before me, doesn't seem to POST after that.

    I checked the post buy half-way unseating some memory and DO get a blink code error, but when all of the hardware is good, I get no blinks, and nothing on the screen.

    Names I've tried:

    Running Adam's tool IT says the name should be F3.bin or F4.bin. When I look at the platform.ini the model is blank, but the other platform lines are FFFF, and BB. I've tried combinations of F3.bin F4.bin, F3.fd F4.fd, 30F*.bin (which is the first 4 of the name also), FFFF.bin, FFFF.fd, BB.bin, BB.fd, bios.bin, bios.fs, KM2X64.bin KM2X64HW.bin, VADER_UMAX64.FD, and VADERX64.FD (and.bin) which I found in a previous DV7 Post, and so many others i can't remember them all.

    For each file, or set of files I've given it 5 - 10 minutes to see if that was the "correct" process. I also went through and tried each version of the BIOS from HP F.21 - F.2D anyway, not ALL of them. which of course took several hours giving them all 5 - 10 minutes.

    Flash Drive Information & How I'm doing it:

    I'm following directions and it seems to be reading my thumb drive (it's FAT formatted, 32 Meg, I found a really old one). Unplug, Win+B, plug in, wait a few seconds, Power, Wait a few seconds, Release Win+B, The "read" light on the flash drive lights up and the laptop will beep (2 - 20 times depending on which files i've got saved on it), Then the speakers will click like the power on the laptop was reset, the laptop will beep the same number of times again, speakers click, repeat repeat repeat, etc...

    Plea for Help:

    I did read through the entire 34 page history of this thread looking for information and have tired the things suggested so far, If anyone has any other suggestions, or can help out I'd be very appreciative... My computer is still working but my Wife's is the one i was trying to update... Not a good position to be in with her :grabbounce:

    Thanks :D
